Great show, never thought I would say that about Langston but MG has definitely put his stamp on that program over the years and I think Oklahoma Best Kept Secret won’t be secret much longer.

Fall of 1969 my alma mater (Southwestern Oklahoma State University) played Langston University at Langston. Typical late November day for Oklahoma ... cold, windy, drizzly, and in general pretty miserable. Halftime the LU band did their usually marvelous job (I don't think anyone left the stands ... particularly us SWOSU folks). At the end of their performance they formed into a half-circle concert and played "America, The Beautiful" as arranged by Carmen Dragon. If you haven't heard that number ... look it up here on youtube immediately. As the Lions' band began, the clouds broke and the sun shone through to spotlight the band. As the last sounds died away, the clouds rolled back in and the gloom returned. No one in my vicinity was able to move for a LONG time, then the cheering began and lasted for several minutes as the band left the field! SWOSU won the game 56-0, but their band DEFINITELY won halftime!

@@fabionwilson6992….now you know all the youngsters feel that way about their school lol….I don’t agree with dissing other HBCU bands though, so the garbage comment isn’t necessary….But all the bandhead people like to diss each other for the heck of it which is so odd to me lol…..But don’t sleep on Langston. They were once a “big dog” band before until they fell off for some long years. But It’s good to see them slowly coming back. And they actually were more entertaining than a few schools there. I honestly think they were better BCU in the stands for sure 😂….They held their own tho. All the bands did good.
