I didn't know that Hawaii Calls was on TV. I left Hawaii to go to college at Purdue in 1953, I was home sick, but I got to listen to Hawaii Calls on radio on Saturday afternoons to help me through.

The popularity of the Hawaii Calls radio show inspired a TV version in the mid 1960s. A 26 episode syndication package was created. But when audience viewership came in below expectations, plans for further episodes were abandoned & the producers returned their focus to radio.

There's a nifty book with a chapter about Hawaiian music (chapter five) called ECHO AND REVERB by Peter Doyle. A good scholarly read.
