Thanks for the video. It is very helpful!! For people who are considering buying it now or in the future. I bought the tent recently (2022). They have made pretty much all the modifications as this video suggested. All the corners now come with shock cords. They also include additional 8 guy lines including 2 extra long ones for rain fly guy outs. The only minor thing that was wrong was that the line locks were not installed properly. As a newbie, I watched a couple of videos on how to use line locks and got it fixed. A great tent and a great company!

Glad it helped! I was all in on hammocking for a while but honestly a roomy tent like this with a good quality sleeping pad is hard to beat. I ended up going with the Nemo tensor XL which I like a lot more than the Paria pad. Fits great.

I’ve loved my Big Agnes 2P but she’s heavy. So I went with the SMD Skyscraper Scout when I backpack with a group. I live in Alaska and now I know what to order if backpacking with a friend, especially if they don’t have gear. My jaw dropped at the width of this palace. Saved this video for when it arrives. @@patrickvandeventer6165 Would you say the 2P is definitely the better option ? Slightly heavier than the 1P and marginally more expensive. I appreciate this is quite subjective.

To me it just depends on whether you think you'll ever want a 2 person option. The 1P is definitely roomy enough for 1 person. I'm about to go on a backpacking trip and share this tent, and being able to split the weight and only carry a little over 1.5 lbs is nice!

The bathtub floor has webbing loops on the short ends as well. I tie this back to the stake holding the 3rd and 4th trekking poles (or sticks). This keeps the tub taut. I’ve never seen any video mention these webbing loops, but they are there.

Hi great video with some good suggestions I'm going to try out...have you tried their quilts?. You mention your 6ft 5inch and the same and wanted a good quilt that would work for us tall people for winter?? Thanks
@patrickvandeventer61653 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out. I have not tried their quilts, wanted something lighter. I have a hammock gear top quilt and actually just make the regular length work. The long version would be nice but I like the one I got just fine! I rarely sleep like a mummy on my back which is the only time the quilt is stretched out.
@TheMad106 Жыл бұрын
I bought this in 2021 and looked at your review back then. Their cord seems to hold pretty good on the line locks for me. Maybe they fixed it. I actually didn't need the shock cord as I inserted the tent's cord loop through the ground sheets loop before staking. So the groundsheet is never staked.

did you end up getting both this and the xmid 2p? How do they compare? I also want an xmid 2p but don't want to wait and also it's double the cost of this tent. What's your opinion? I currently have a 5b freestanding NF stormbreak 2
@natehoover52662 жыл бұрын
@@shaneb395 I did finally get my hands on an Xmid 2p and just got back from a 4 day trip to the Cranberry Wilderness. The xmid is definitely better. Way easier to pitch, better designed (pockets, doors, layout) over a pound lighter and just plain cooler. But the Arches is a solid tent for what it is. It did well for over 100 miles in Colorado but I didn't have it in any bad weather.

Great ideas, but i think u need a loop on each side to pull the fly away from the tent body,eh, eh , . From Canada in case u didnt get it. Butt seriouly the way youve done it allows the fly to rub on the body of the tent. Just my humble opinion. Cheers , keep on campin.

@patrickvandeventer61652 ай бұрын
Hey There! I actually have weight measurements for those... 5.4oz for the stakes (with bag) and 8.15oz for the ground sheet is what I got. You can use the tent without the groundsheet if you want, mostly just helps protect it and extend the life of the tent body. You can save a little weight by swapping out with MSR mini ground hog stakes but only saves about 0.1 oz per stake :) Hope this helps!

Thank you! I'd been searching for the right tent. My brother bought one of these. I liked it so much that I bought one. Problem was, we were making setup a two man job and not a good one. I wanted a 2 man because I hike with my dogs. After watching this I think I can pull setup off by myself with the tweaks you've recommended. Have you tried their sleeping bags? Lightening up there is my next step.
@patrickvandeventer61653 жыл бұрын
You're more than welcome, glad it was helpful! I have not tried their sleeping bags. Based on specs they seem to be decent value for the money but are a little on the "heavy" side for down/hybrid bags. Personally, I've made the switch to top quilts which I really enjoy for tent camping and hammock camping. Hammock Gear has a great value top quilt, and I'm going to be doing a video pretty soon showing how to DIY your down top quilt from $40 down blankets. I would definitely look at down if you're looking to lighten up, and top quilts get you even lighter and don't have the issues with claustrophobia and trying to fiddle with the mummy zipper just to breath or reach out.

I see that you used 4 trekking poles on this? IS there another way to create space without carrying 4 trekking poles on a 4 day back packing trip?
@patrickvandeventer6165 Жыл бұрын
Good question! Yes, for sure. What I've done when I'm not sharing the tent (and using both hiker's trekking poles) is to tie off to a nearby tree branch to pull the sides out/up, or find a stick to use instead of a poles for those sides. Hope this helps.

Does it come with 1.5 Dyneema or is that what you upgrade to? On the sight they sell 1.5 Dyneema is this what I would need for the cordage replacement? www.pariaoutdoorproducts.com/collections/products/products/ultralight-dyneema-tarp-tent-guy-line
@patrickvandeventer61653 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I purchased that Dyneema from the link to use as longer cordage for the top guy-outs. You can also use it for longer loops on the ground sheet. The tent body and rain fly corners pair well with shock cord (1/4" or 3/32" diameter). I used Spectra glide line from Hammock Gear on the rain fly corners, but shock cord could be used there as well. The silpoly material of the rain fly will stretch a bit and shock cord helps to keep it tight.
@Zman-Outdoors3 жыл бұрын
@@patrickvandeventer6165 thanks this all helps greatly, very detailed! I just noticed the links have all the cords you used. I think this tent will work for my backcountry scouting and hunting trips. @@Zman-Outdoors Awesome. I've slept through rain in it and stays plenty dry, but I haven't taken it though heavy rain and winds. Seems to have plenty of coverage though and you can pitch the rain fly real close to the ground by lowering the pole height. Should be bone dry.
