What a beautiful song! Learned to know it through the BBC's series 'Our Girl', season 4, episode 4, on 31-10-2017.

Andre, ditto on hearing this song on the Our Girl episode you noted. The song was the perfect choice for the events that unfolded on the show. I found the song to be particularly poignant and meaningful to me, since I lost my wife three months ago. We often think of sadness as something negative, and to be avoided. In my opinion, however, there are sad times that can also remind us of happier times, maybe even smile a little bit. When something sad happens in our life, I believe we go through a period of numbness when it's hard to feel much of anything. But, hearing a song like "Ships in the Rain," although it might make us cry and feel sad, it's a "good" sadness because it reminds us that we're still alive, and that we can at least feel something again. Prime Minister Winston Churchill said in World War II when some positive news finally arrived after many setbacks, that, "This is not the end of the war...nor is it the beginning of the end...rather, it is the end of the beginning." I would like to think that hearing "Ships in the Rain" in relation to my wife's passing is the end to the beginning of a sad period in my life, and now I can begin to move toward happier times.
