Any money it is yet another mast break caused by the downhaul rivets? at 7.45 it appears there is scoring on that mast base also? Time Hobie accepted this is a design flaw. www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=60468

that was exact! We have had twice the same breakage: in fact this mast broke a couple of months before and that wasn't in rough conditions. By that time we were sailing in mainland Spain and wind was 8-9 knots. (SURCAN 2016). The same as Riepold is explaining in the forum.

It's very worrying, I have just got my 2018 Tandem Island and it was a lot of money for me. I know they are usually pretty good with warranty stuff etc, but denying this is a design flaw would seem a moot point to me. The overwhelming evidence from others is pretty clear. I think the sooner Hobie accept this, the better for them also as a preventative retro-fix will prevent future more costly mast breaks and subsequent claims. P.S enjoy your videos, you was one of the channels that help persuaded me to get one so Hobie owe you guys already :-)

I do agree with you. Lately , I use more fresh water por the mast outside and inside trying to avoid any salty stuff that can damage it... Moreover, Hobie service in Spain is nightmare. We have to look for our own ways to sort out problems.

That's another reason I paid for membership at a private marina launch site, you get a fresh water hosereel to clean the boat off right on the slipway. As it appears to be the downhaul cleat that is causing it , I am sure Hobie could come up with a cheap retrospective fix or damage ther reputation otherwise, lets watch the forum thread and wait and see I guess.

Toño Cée muchas gracias por el comentario.... efectivamente un asunto a resolver u al mismo tiempo emplazo a. Desmontar y endulzar el mástil por dentro. No es una práctica habitual pero creo que evitaría disgustos de este tipo , al menos en un determinado porcentaje. Saludos cordiales

Dear Cavendish, I once saw a video of yours where you shown how to install and how to operate an emergency rudder on a Tandem Island. I don't see that viedo anymore on your list. Do you still have that video? Would you mind to share it with us? I fear that my rudder may malfunction anyday out at the sea, miles offshore.
