There will never ever be a voice to equal Mario Lanza. Loved his voice from a child because of my mother. His beautiful golden velvet voice was magical.

Wonderful..again thanks for this...my Italian american Grandma died @105 years old in 1999 .she had performed Italian Operattas around Boston,Mass over 100 years ago..we talked about Mario and she was about Opera rather then film and wished he had never gone to Hollywood..I always understood her view..but he still gave the world so much..life is what it is and what a treasure he was for all of us.😍❤

Mario's voice . . It can't be described. The glamour, the excitement and power. The gentlest wisper or a great ocean wave of passion. It's velvet and silk and cloudy comfort, passion and sensuality and rawest emotion.all while personality pours forth like the sun, unhindered by the slightest self consciousness, yet honeyed with an ego less humbleness I believe to be as sort of innocence. And yet fueled by an astonishing verve. But it's the heart, his heart in his song that tears at the soul

Also..I was only 5yrs old when Mario passed. My Dad born 1914 in America..went to live in Italy @ age 7 with his grandfather..while in school in a choir in Italy..was told he had a beautiful tenor voice..which he did😊 He had to rush back to America when Mussolini came into power..came home to a Depression in America. Had to work..WWII..never allowed to pursue..but he Adored Mario..we were given the gift of growing up with the great Lanza. So grateful we had Mario as long as we did and he'll live on forever..grazia 🙏💗👏❤

The best paying tribute to the best of the best is quite emotional. Mario Lanza has been my absolute favourite Tenor since I was 13 years old in 1954. I think Placido, Carreras, and Pavarotti were great, but Mario was still and will for some time be the King. Even Elvis Presley believed that.

Knowing now how Mario's brief life ended, the extreme pressures on him for years, his unhealthy way to cope by overeating, drinking, if he had a chance to start over when he was first discovered, he would never have chosen fame and fortune would have married Betty raised a family and lived to an ripe old age as a common worker with the greatest voice ever.

Well done, Vince! I had never seen the interview with Sammy Cahn before - at least I cannot remember. Good to also see both eminent Mario Lanza biographers, Armando Cesari and Derek Mannering, commenting on Mario. Incidentally, who is the man in the blue shirt at about 16:20? I am puzzled.

Thanks Steff! That man is Gary Giddins, (sorry for not putting a name caption up for him) en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Giddins That clip is from a 3 part series called “The Voice” the 2nd part was called “Getting Intimate - The Male Voice” it went from Caruso to Lanza, Louis Armstrong to Crosby, Sinatra & even up to Bob Dylan to Bono. Choosing Giddins to comment on Mario was a bit odd as Jazz is his speciality. Did you see the Rosati update, I used your translation from 1959 & thanked you in end credit, I hope that’s ok.

@@DiPlacido71 Thank you Vince,. Actually, I didn't notice my name at the end. For some reason I closed the video after your acknowledging Derek McGovern and Armando Cesari! (The best at the end, eh?!! LOL). Incidentally, do you also have all those annoying commerical breaks? I think I had at least three of them when watching the video. And they are always so well-placed! (that's meant ironically!).

If I watch in my KZbin Studio app there are no ads but on normal KZbin I have ads, I’m afraid it’s all part of the monetisation, Warner & Sony jump on any material that’s used from their catalogues, the algorithms are very clever.
