So can we blame Wei Wuxian for misunderstanding Lan Wangji? The scene in the animation was shorter, but even there, Lan Zhan is visibly in pain and shock. He loved and cared so much about Wei Ying for years, but at that point he understands just how big of a sacrifice WY made and he regretted scolding him for using dark magic. He understood that otherwise WY would have died even earlier.

Because through all those good deeds and twisted methods for justice to protect others, he was actually causing his and all their demise, and Lan Zhan could neither deny Wei Ying to protect others or do justice when Wei Ying asks him for that literally holding Lan Zhan's heart in his hands, but he couldn't see him go to his demise either.
