I’m trying to find a good budget or used lap steel right now !! I’m 66 and started playing rythym guitar at 12 years old with my uncle’s Cajun band. I gave up playing guitar because of fingering hand surgery for 20 years and about a year ago I saw a squire telecaster at pawnshop and asked him to see it ? Don’t know why but I could catch a couple more chords on it better than my 1979 peavy T 60 ?? Having it since brand new !! I got a slide and started using it on the Tele. Then ran across the bar you use with a steel for your chords. I’m a TRUE CAJUN and have been laughed at because of my equipment !! I put the Tele on my mom’s ironing board with a short neck wedge to raise the front and the new chrome bar and making music with this setup ??? Lmao!! I know about which frets I’m supposed to be using but can’t tell anyone what chord I’m using ?? I’m tuned 440 and used to use a F chord and do G C D chords and slide them with my fingers and that’s kinda what I been doing on my ironing board steel guitar 🎸 ?? Lol I will be needing a book on getting started when I find something I like and can afford !! How are those low budget Asian steels ?? $ 300 bucks ?? If I can’t pull it off then I won’t be out of a bunch of cash !! I’m having trouble holding the bar in my fingering hand is a problem ?? Maybe I don’t have the right technique or the right kind either ?? Any suggestions for me ?? You can laugh all you want at this CAJUN and his RIG !! I need someone who has experience to help me out because I want to PLAY AGAIN and not look Stupid doing it !! CRAZY CAJUN !!

@@WendellDurio jump to a lap steel if you can - those frets can be real pesky and you’ll want to get on something without frets - the cheap lapsteels are great. It’s all about playing in time and in tune, my man.

Have you ever tried the palm benders on your lap steels?

@@BryanClark-gk6ie not yet - I’d have to get a separate lap steel for that, but I have my eye on doing it to one of those cheaper Gretsch models
