At some point, they have to tell the homeless they are not allowed to put tents up on the beach or boardwalk, and if they do, they will have the choice of jail, rehab or a shelter. Asking doesn't work. A functioning society needs rules, and currently, the homeless don't have to follow any rules.

Yes the homeless have been given way too much leeway. They use drugs, drink alcohol, do prostitution and refuse help. Enough is enough.

Guess I missed the part where they “tackle” the problem.

Free food, free medical care, free police services, and free money, what's not to like living on the beach or streets in California?
@sheilaarmistead78885 ай бұрын
If someone comes up to me and says “we want to help you get off the streets” my response is “ok how?”I’m homeless, but working. Market rate apartments are 2-3 thousand a month. Wait lists are years long. You can’t even rent a hotel room for less than a hundred a night, and congregate shelters (which is why encampments are widespread) are not an option. Let’s be realistic and try to think outside the box.

The police must stop coddling these people.

@kathyhaemmerle2638 The police have no choice. It's California policies that allow this.
@tysa19995 ай бұрын
They know they can't have tents on the beach or boardwalk any longer. Their work-around is using a tarp or blanket or canopy. No sleeping on the beach, period. No more asking nicely.
@DerekWill-p1b5 ай бұрын
@tysa1999 They know there are no consequences. They move their tent or tarp, and all their stuff, and they come back. If the police do write a citation, they ignore it, they won't be prosecuted, and they know it, and the police know it. The police aren't allowed to arrest them for illegal drug use.

Yes in order for a society to function to protect their citizens they must have rules. The homeless have been allowed to break all rules. This is wrong and dangerous and it must end.

so are they more proactive with Santa Monica beaches or venice beaches?
@sayimjustadreamer5 ай бұрын
Venice is part of the City of Los Angeles. Santa Monica is an independent city that is wealthier and has more resources than LA. SM has greater capacity to deal with the homeless than Venice does. Santa Monica also has more stringent anti-camping ordinances, so you don’t have encampments as you do in LA.
