'According to John Campbell only 6 whiskies make up Lore. They are aged between 7 and 21 years and include some ¼ cask matured (probably the 7 year old), a 9 year refill ex-bourbon, a 9 year double matured (ex-bourbon then virgin European oak), a 1993 distilled 21 year old Laphroaig, some unspecified aged whisky that was matured in reused Laphroaig casks and another unspecified aged sherried Laphroaig as well.' Thanks to LiquorHound for that information. Personally I like it but I don't rate it as high as you guys. It's a well made dram but it doesn't have much complexity and this is a criticism I have of Laphroaig Distillery offerings lately. I want some wow factor. If they bottled the 10 year at 46%, instead of the watery 40% here in the U.K, that would do it. Much better stuff coming from the independents right now.

Yup -that's exactly what came to mind. Seems as though Laphroaig's market positioning for this product is such that it is their answer to Ardbeg's Uigeadail. Significant difference in price though in my area, with the Lore more expensive by about $50.

I love the Laphroaig Quarter Cask and especially Laphroaig Triple Wood. My all time favorite Peats are Bowmore 18 years, Lagavulin Distiller's Edition (2001 - 2017 bottling version) and Ardbeg Dark Cove. Lagavulin Distiller's Edition is probably my favorite of the three. Is Laphroaig Lore for 180$ worth it and is it comparable to these Scotches?

Oh, speaking of pointing your way, Sent a Letter to Dehner Distillery in Iowa, I hope they contact you for their new product they are puting out shortly named copper cross Burbon - Rye blend. Just got a letter from High West Whiskey club, over in Park City Utah, they sent me a little note book to take field notes on whiskeys and some stikers (nice touch), and sent me an invitation to visit their places (their Saloon in Park City, Nelson Cottage, their Distillery in Wanship and their saloon in Salt Lake city airport. I will have acces to new and limited release products from them. So I think I'll be planing a visit to Utah this year. Hey Guys: Here is a recipe I created that you may like to try using a LAPHROAIG/SPEYSIDE Blend. SLAINTE Mike MARINATED TROUT IN PEATED SCOTCH with Tarragon and Sage This Tastes like I cooked using a PEAT/TURF Fire. PEAT/Scotland, TURF/Ireland is decomposed organic plant and animal material close to the ground surface which was traditionally used to burn for heat and cooking, but now is only largely used to dry barley for whisky in the Hebrides Islands of Scotland. The PEAT/TURF Smoke is absorbed by the barley and a smokey flavor is transferred to the Whisky. Lay Fish in a Tuberware or other food container. Place Sage and tarragon leaves on the fish. Cover the Fish with MIST OF ISLAY 8 year old Blended Scotch ($11 and change + tax at a discount liquor store in NYC) You may use another brand if you choose. Cover and refrigerate for 24 Hours Put a small amount of oil in a baking dish; Cut potatoes place them in baking dish and season with rosemary and Thyme. Bake checking until done. Wrap Fish in Tin foil; place fresh Sage and Tarragon on fish and ladle marinade on the fish in the open tin foil. Close and Bake. Checking fish until done. Serve Trout layed over bed of potatoes. The Peat smoke flavor stays with the fish so that it tastes as if the fish was cooked over a PEAT/TURF Fire TRY IT!!!
