I tried this on my HP laptop in the beginning of 2019 using 20W-50 synthetic motor oil. The laptop fan has been working fine for the last 4 years with nearly daily use. I also added the same oil on a project with a cheap fan that's running 24/7 year round since November 2020, the fan still spins flawlessly. I realized I get good results with heavy full-synthetic engine oils with 20W-50 spec.

Thank you so much for this video. This helped me fix my Asus vivobook 15 X512DA fan that was annoying me for over a year. I had already taken it out and cleaned the dust multiple times, reapplied the thermal paste on the CPU thinking the fan was having to overwork due to high CPU temps but nothing helped. All it took was 2 drops of motor oil in the fan, cleaning it out a few times like you said, and voila! The fan is dead silent now, like it was on day 1, CPU temps are mostly in the 50s, sometimes going to 60s and the fan stays dead silent even at its peak of 4,200 rpm. Thank you so much.

So I have popped out the backplates of my old fans since they were unfixable and they were barely compatible with my new shipped fans (the parts you cut off with blade does not fully fit) so I just taped the backplates with electrical tape (only taped 2 major pieces unlike your 5-6 way). The backplates were kind of bent as cutting the connecting bits off didn't occur to me, so I have bent them back into their own shape. I have checked them multiple times to see if there were any noticable gaps and put it back together. The fans work fine but I wonder if my method was safe in the long run. What do you think?

Keep in mind this is only helpful for certain types of bearings, like sleeve bearings which I'm fairly sure this is. Also the shaft on some are secured with a snap ring which can be very carefully removed. If the shaft is worn down or there's a lot of play in the bearing, there's not much that can be done. Be sure to use an oil that isn't too thick and cleaning it really well is critical. Also, you can simply bend up metal tabs using a blade instead of cutting them off.

These types of blowers, which can only be opened if you cut the plastic that holds the piece with the blade, are designed so there is no way to maintain them. It's a real pain. My notebook's blower is the same type and to be able to disassemble it whenever I want without using tape to close it, I took 4 microscrews and melted the plastic to create the threads for the screws. It's like something from the factory now. I just use white glue between the parts to prevent air leakage.

Do Not Use WD-40, it is not a lubricant, it actually breaks up greases and oils. One of the BEST lubricants you can get is some kind of silicone grease or silicone oil. It will never dry up, and it doesn't collect dust and dirt like normal oils and greases. But use it sparingly (a drop or two) because it doesn't take much and it's pretty hard to clean up since it doesn't stick to much of anything (just wait till you go to wash your hands and your fingers are still slick after 5 washes). RC Hobby shops have silicon oil for bearings, but you might be able to find something more specific (slightly thicker) for fan bushings on the internet.

Many thanks. It worked and saved me 60$ for a new FAN (aliexpress) or 250 from HP. It's shame, that one cannot open/close the FAN without cutting the parts.. It's just all foking HP (and others) strategy to charge one for shitload of money to repair an easy thing...

hey so this was pretty dumb of me to do in retro spective as im not familiar with such oil brands but , i ended up using wd-40 despite what u said in the video , will this be causing a fire hazard for my laptop or just break the fan in general ? should i be concerned and just buy a new one as i did add a lot ( by accident ) , would be helpful if u responded quick , this is a stupid mistake on my end but i'd like to be know why using wd-40 is such a bad thing
@ItsBinhRepaired4 ай бұрын
Wd-40 is not a lubricant. It's a water displacer. If you're lucky it liquified the oil that's in there and kept it there. I recommend soaking up as much as you can. It should be ok after that, but I recommend adding oil still.

Hello, what can I do if my motherboard for the fan is broken. How did i get this conclusion? After cleaning my fan (which still works), my wifi became crazy and then I reopened, and fixed my wifi cables. Afterwards my fan died. I tried cleaning with isopropyl alcohol for the cable and connector and waited for it to fully dry and the fan still died. Ordered a new spare part, and even that one is dead. :((
@ItsBinhRepaired4 ай бұрын
Sounds like you might have damaged the connector or your computer isn't getting hot enough for the fans to turn on.

@tkm7d WD-40 isn't a good lubricant. It's meant to displace water, not act as a permanent grease. Using something like sewing machine oil or like a hair trimmer oil will work much better, or ask someone to pull the dipstick from their car and get a drop. Lol
