Yes, that is a horrible battery life. But, when you buy a gaming laptop, you should be aware that the battery will be horrible. The only concern is battery quality on Asus laptops. All my Asus laptops (F3JC, N56VZ, X553MA and GL502VMK) have low tier batteries, that degrade their capacity pretty quickly. Even my Lenovo 100-15IBY - which is a low-tier laptop - have a better quality battery. So, those 2:30h will go into 1:30h in a year. Asus continues to be on the best side for quality/price ratio, but when it comes to high-end models, I prefer going with MSI or Dell. Even Lenovo is catching up on the top-end market. Asus needs to step-up their game in refining their high-end laptops, and batteries in the all line-up.

To be honest, I bet the battery life improvement isn't worth ditching the drive. Not to justify it that way, but most other comparable notebooks have the same problem, but I bet the need to play games for that long, remotely, is less of a concern for this kind of product. If you need the computing power in the mobile form factor, I'd imagine your occupation would have the necessity for you to have access to power in the first place. Maybe just me, but I'd rather deal with all the drawbacks just to have the extra storage internally.

If you turn off G-sync and turn the fps from 144 to 60, lower the screen brightness, and go on airplane mode. (for instance if you're actually on a airplane and want to watch a movie or play a game that integrated graphics can play like old school RTS for me. Make all global setting use the integrated graphics. And lower the FPS from 144 to 60, (they'll be automatically 144 when G-sync keeps it lower which is why you're not seeing much difference, yes G-sync is off but now you're running so many more frames. And if you simply want to stream netflix or something i've easily gotten over 2 and a half hours which is not great but far better than these reviewers.. Anyways the only time I'd really not have an option to plug it in is... well never saying for about 50 bucks you can get a 90WH external and suddenly you have a massive battery supply and you can play a whole 5 hour flight. Especially with some undervolting.

This is one of many reviews that reviewers got straight wrong. For instance I like his channel and feel for him with the fire. But austin evans had a random amazon thing where he used an Opolar side cooler upside down and declared it didn't work. I'd used the same cooler with 5 to 10 degrees less which is huge.. Haha this when KZbinrs might want to get off their high horse and read a manual.. Every review of this laptop has reported HORRIBLE on battery times. It seems like they kept it at high performance because an extra hour isn't common error.

Considering this is a budget version of the zephyrus, yea they have to save the cost
@skyjewel48616 жыл бұрын
M.2 SSDs ain’t cheap. Plus don’t forget that sometimes, Brands would cater for people who want to save cost, not just “go big or go home”. SSD boot drive and HDD Storage is a very common combo in laptops and desktops today.

i think if someone is shelling out 2k on a laptop, they can afford a m.2 drive

Glad to see the they have improved the cooling on this newer model. I have previous gen of this laptop with the higher configuration (GTX1080 max Q) and the it has severely deformed the battery from heat. I'm RMAing it. The Keyboard & bottom of the laptop are bulged out & cannot close the laptop completely. This all happened when the laptop was used in the open, max ventilation position. Here's a picture of it. i.imgur.com/iyrg6ft.jpg

The 1060 version of this Zephyrus is still going strong for me after 3 years, the 1060 inside this beast is a desktop variant rather than max-p (except on 1070 GS model) Battery is a small size though I appreciate being able to uprade each channel of memory. The best kit of memory for the GM501 is: 2x8GB CMSX16GX4M2A3000C16, and not for the XMP profile, the timings on the spd profile are insanely good: spd 2666MHz CL 9-9-9-24 I would like to upgrade my storage on this to an m.2 gen3x4 Optane P1600X 118GB paired with a 2TB 870 EVO and that Corsair Vengeance SO-DIMM memory I memntioned above.

Great machine. I'm looking to get a GL703GS though. 17''3 screen, 300$ cheaper, and only 0.5kg heavier. Specs are all the same. Still almost as portable as this one in my opinion, can't justify paying 300$ and having a smaller screen for a fairly minimal portability bonus. Like I mean 2.5kg vs 3kg isn't that important... And I don't think Zephyrus is cooling better even with it's "open-back" design.
@llawliet93006 жыл бұрын
I was actually going to get the GL703GS, then I saw some benchmarks and temperatures, and no thanks. The CPU gets in the 90s and the GPU gets over 85. Not in my comfort zone, so I went with the Zephyrus M. I've had it for a few weeks and I must say it's probably the best purchase in my life. Also the keyboard is probably one of the best I've ever used.

why does a 144hz laptop monitor have 3ms response time when my decade old 60hz had 2ms? I noticed recently when playing on my spare laptop that it had some serious input delay, even when connected to my 144hz 1ms monitor, and i was never able to get some real answer as to why, is it just some sort of hardware issue with laptops that they are just slower?
@Kysuni6 жыл бұрын
klooger28 maybe optimus has to do with this since it acts as a middle man between the nvidia card and screen from what i can tell, but rlly its 1ms, basically nothing. You wouldnt buy this for the top tier competetive esports anyways which is the only place where 1ms matters
@Vicstruction6 жыл бұрын
It's a different issue entirely, that 3ms and 2ms is pixel response time. Meaning how long it takes for pixels to respond and change color. Input lag is a different thing and it's probably just the laptop.
@klooger286 жыл бұрын
My laptop got around 120fps on the games i was trying so i doubt its that, thing is even after connecting all my 1ms response time stuff like my mouse keyboard and monitor, despite it helping quite a bit, there was still a significant amount of delay, and its just not something ive ever seen a clear answer on with laptops
@klooger286 жыл бұрын
The laptop i used had radeon graphics so that probably wasnt the issue, unless they have a similar thing. It just seems that every laptop ive ever tried has been pretty disgusting to game on, even if it gives enough frames.
