Removing the hinge cover at the bottom will break the clips that hold it when done that way. It is meant to slide off. Unfortunately, this requires you to remove the display assembly from the bottom to do it properly.

I repaired my screen by doing exactly what joe groves said. Removing the display assembly. The cover “slides” off to the right. It is more a click and slide / slide click hinge cover assembly. Also, by removing the display assembly, the bezel border is easier to take off

Hey man I have a doubt, the original screen of the laptop is HD 30 pin connector but the only replacement that I found is FHD 30 pin connector. Would be risky buy that replacement?

Grim WereWolf as far as connectivity is concerned, I don’t think that’s going to be an issue. FHD and HD just tell you the maximum resolution the display can handle. For example, an FHD display can support up to 1920*1080 of resolution, while its HD counterpart is limited to 1280*720 of resolution. However, your laptop’s VGA (gtx 1650) should be able to work with either one. 👌

Carolina Rivas Carolina Rivas There is probably more than one way to do it. But, what I did was that I insert the cover at the front. You will hear it click a bit but it is still loose. Then, what you do next is fold down the screen and tilt it 90 degree toward yourself. You will see that there is a gap between the cover and the hinge just press it down from left to right. You will feel a but of tension but don’t worry it wont break.

Abdelrahman Mahmoud Talking about high refresh rate like 120 Hz, I would assume that you are a gamer. If that ‘s the case, then technically ‘Yes’ you can replace your 60Hz for a 120 Hz screen. But, I’m afraid you may not benefit much from the high-refresh-rate screen, if your VGA is not capable of outputting high FPS, which of course varies from one game to another. For example, your GTX1650 would output less than 60 FPS if you play Battlefield V at 1080p with all settings maxed out. So, you probably won’t see much difference between your old 60Hz screen and your new 120 Hz screen based on that scenario.

When putting the new screen on, is it necessary to put the double sided tape to get the bracket sticky again or can I skip that step?

Mark Morton Since the LCD just sits on the hinge without a single screw to hold it in place, I recommend that you use double sided tape to prevent it from falling while working on it. Plus, you cannot rely on the front bezel to hold the weight of the LCD, since the adhesive on it has already lost the bonding strength from the removal attempt.

I wish you could fix mines for me 😅 I noticed that the LCD have white (smudge like) fingerprints. It's definitely not on the outside of the screen, so it definitely has to be on the inside. However I'm nervous about removing it myself. I just don't want to break anything

The best way is by removing the display assembly. You do that by assessing the assembly from the bottom of the laptop. Take off the bottom cover and you would see 2 screws on either side. There are various cables that run from the main board to the display so one should disconnect those first. Then the hinge cover can be “slid” to the right side and lift up. So what I explained is removal of hinge and if you did it that way (removal) then reassembly would be the reverse process

Kamran Bhatti Yes. But you can also open the bottom cover to disconnect WLAN cable and eDP cable from the mother board first before removing screws that secure the metal hinge to the main chassis. However, you also run a risk of damaging the WLAN and eDP cables as well if too much force is applied. That, however, doesn’t mean my way is risk-free because the plastic hinge cover could be damaged too again if excessive force is applied, but at least you are not tampering with any other cables when doing it my way.

Sorry not that i know of but i think the screen size might also be something to consider. Of course 4K can deliver four times the pixels of the 1080P, but I probably cant tell a big difference with just 15.6” screen. My point is you might need a much larger screen to truly appreciate 4K.

Question I just performed this and the installation went fine. I ordered a screen using the part number on the back of the bad screen so I confident of that. When I cut the cpu on the screen is very dark. Would this possibly be a bad connecting cable to the screen. Please advise

Just got this laptop. The screen is really bad quality and the colors are all off for 3D modeling and Photoshop. Do you recommend a better Screen part replacement with vivid colors?

If the picture quality is now different from when you tested it at the shop (I supposed you didn’t buy it online), then that means there could be something wrong with the screen or the GPU or perhaps the GPU driver. If the laptop is under warranty, I suggest you seek support from Lenovo first as self-replacing screen will void the warranty, but if you want to do things your way, try connecting your laptop to another monitor display. If the picture quality is still bad, then it’s either the GPU or its driver. So, try updating the GPU driver first. However, if the picture quality is better with the external monitor display connected, then it is probably the LCD.

@@toughastank Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. Drivers for laptop are all up to date. I connected to an external monitor. It looks better. This a brand new laptop i7, 16GB, 1TB NVMe 2. I use it for graphic design and the colours are inferior to my older laptop. I may need to open both laptops and try the old screen on the new laptop. Do you know the part numbers that would compatible? A screen seller says it start with 156.

@shtml54 15.6” is the screen size. What matters is the number of pins at the connector. The ideapad L340 supports a screen with 30 pin connector, and I have provided the part number in my description ;)

Exactly, the metal hinge is secured by 8 screws to the screen cover. So, with all those screws removed it becomes loose. But, you still have to watch out delicate antenna cables that are attached to the screen cover.

Yahya Soliman Yahya Soliman Yahya Soliman nope it is not the actual boot time. It was my editing. However, the actual boot time was not bad - probably around 30 or 35 seconds. I think this is the i5 version and the SSD is Samsung 970 EVO plus NVME M.2, but I don’s remember its capacity.

웃긴동영상3 I probably won’t recommend a lighter, as it could be difficult to control the heat transfer. Alternatively, you can just pull the adhesive strip with your hand. The adhesive strip they use on this machine is pretty much the same as that found on iPhone batteries.

This laptop is built with Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 graphic chip. So, I think it supports a 120 Hz screen provided that the screen is 15.6” in size and has the 30-pin connector, but I cannot be certain if you will get that refresh rate at a high resolution like 1080p. My advice is to stick to 60Hz at high resolution and you won’t be disappointed.

Abdelrahman Nabil Abdelrahman Nabil I wouldn’t say ‘any’ because there are other factors you need to consider like whether the display supports 30 pins connector and has the right dimension (Please look at the part number in the description). As for the refresh rate, I think the VGA supports 120 Hz display, but be reminded that this VGA isn’t so powerful compared to its desktop counterpart. To make the most use of high refresh rate as such, the VGA must be able to produce high FPS as well.

Ginting E Kencana Generally, I do not recommend using LCD made for a different laptop model. But if you are willing to take the risk, you must make sure that 1) the screen size is the same. In my case, it’s 15.6 “. 2) the resolution matches. In my case, it’s 1920 x 1080. 3) The type of connector is the same. In my case, it’s 30 pin eDP.

@@devesh.mishra If what you say is true, then that means their service time could vary from one Asian country to another. But that doesn't mean Lenovo's customer service is bad here either. I'm just blessed that he picked me for whatever other reasons he might have had other than the long wait time. Oh and no I am not from Europe or America. I am a Thai national and the reason I posted that link is because I bought the screen from them and they are a good supplier. There could be a number of OEM manufacturers for this particular screen, and this Chinese retailer just happened to have the model that I needed which I couldn't find in my country.

There is a point a repair like this simply is not worth it. Once you have to get a heat gun involved, worry about tape, and perhaps remove an entire display assembly simply to remove a bar of plastic.. it's not worth the time, frustration, or effort. I would rather buy a new laptop and not one by Lenovo if this is how they choose to design their products.
