Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly". This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonata, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace. The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and gave his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself. The classic music piece is globally famous and there were many different translations into different songs, with different music compositions, mostly operatic, and different lyrics (the band Renaissance, Daniele Licari, Sarah Brightman and Sissel Kyrkjebo for instance). But the most famous version, by far, is Lara’s version: it was translated into a pop song for her, she wrote lyrics in italian then co-wrote the english lyrics for it and is the original performer of these 2 versions. She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration. This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash (Lara is his absolute idol and he covered several of her songs), Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Julie Anne San Jose, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, Il Divo, Rimar, Vitas, Anastasia Luna, Evgenia Fanfara, , … They made great covers but none of these match the amazing storytelling performance of Lara, or her ability to use vocal subtleties to be in sync with the music, exposed in her live from the concert From Lara with Love. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKLShGCBhLGJlZY Her italian version is also amazing. Maddy, I really loved your comments about the emotions journey we embark in with Lara. That’s exactly the case. It’s not a performance with Lara, it’s an experience, a complete emotional experience. She wrote this song initially in italian then co-wrote the english version and it has been covered by so many (Dimash, Floor Jansen, Il Divo, … even Dame Shirley Bassey). Many great covers by amazing artists. But her original remains untouchable.

Je viens de découvrir son concert "toutes les femmes en moi" avec, notamment, un sublime cover de Céline Dion, ce qui prouve que Lara est bien au delà de toutes rivalités ou de toutes rancunes. Mais le dernier morceau du concert, la reprise de Ginette Reno "J'ai besoin de parler", est un diamant brut du même acabit que "Je suis malade" et qui mériterait un eng-sub pour passer sur les chaines des reactors... Haute consommation de Kleenex garantie 😭.

🇨🇦 I have said many times that Lara is simply the best ! She is a trained lyric Soprano, and still studies to this day ! Yes she sings with her whole body, with total emotion, and she totally mesmerises her listeners ! But notice also, that each syllabel of every word, in each line of every lyric, is sung Clearly and Completely to the end, no matter what song she sings or which language she sings it in ! I am still suggesting you react to her song "I am A-WA" !

Lara wrote the lyrics on this old classic composition named Adagio, in English and Italian Personally I like more the Italian version...; Lara writes the lyrics of a lot more songs she sings and she writes the lyrics in 2 or 3 other languages on the same composition.. Lara speaks and writes 4 languages. Lara speaks fluent her 2 (3) native languages French and Italian and understands the language of her father Dutch..Lara speaks fluent English an Spanish. Lara composes and writes lyrics in French , English, Italian and Spanish and sings in 7 other languages... Beside her very beautiful , very strong but velvety 4.1 octave voice in all her ranges, Lara has an exceptional breath control. Lara can manipulate her voice how she wants ........ Lara is very underrated internationally and certainly in America On top of that Lara is a very soft and beautiful personality

She co-wrote "Adagio" and she lives inside a song. BTW, When she was young she signed on Sony Records in the USA with the famous producer Tommy Mottola, and he tried to turn her into a typical American pop star. The small sexy outfits and dancing provocatively while singing pop fluff stuff was not her cup of tea. She almost had a nervous breakdown, but fortunately she escaped back to Montreal and got about her own style and her greatness. She's an iconic Master of her dramatic performance style. Her amazing voice is the combination of gifted natural talent and vocal training beginning at The Belgian Conservatory of music at age 15.
