This one is great but the perf they did the last night under the rain is so much better and became legendary. You can check it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIOUo56qlJWVn6M This is the comment I usually post about that other rendition: • Johnny : The most admired singer in France from early 60s to 2017 when he died. He is the Elvis of France, sold more than 110M records WW. His concerts were huge! To give you an idea on how big he was in the french music history, just 3 anecdotes: 1. As a teenager, he was mentored by Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour themselves ! 2. He was the first one who gave his chance to a young guitarist and his band, as a supporting act to his concerts during his 1966 tour. Name of the band: the Jimi Hendrix Experience! 3. When he died in 2017, there were national funerals, with hundred of bikers on the Champs-Elysees, 1 million people long the path of the funeral procession. And this song was played when the coffin penetrated in the church. Johnny was a real vocal powerhouse, but for this concert , in this last night, best perf, the mics were balanced in favor of Lara: he wanted her to shine and found this gave more drama to the duet. • The song: this is an anthem song for him, that he used to sing alone. This was turned into a duet for Lara. The story of the song was created in reference to a very famous old french classic movie: Le Jour se Leve (1939) where the main character is barricaded and surrounded by the police, having killed a bad man who was his rival in love affairs. Here it becomes more a « Bonnie and Clyde » scene where the main character and her girlfriend are defying the police. • The venue/event: Johnny’s concerts in Stade de France ( biggest stadium in Paris and France) in front of min 80,000. Lara was one of the surprise special guest. They were supposed to perform it 3 times in a row on September 1998 (4th, 5th and 6th). The first night on the 4th, it was deluge of rain, the scene was outdoor, it was risky and they decided at the last minute, with the crowd in the stadium, to postpone it to Sep 11th . Johnny was devastated. The second night and the third night the weather was fine enough. There were 200+ musicians and 150+ chorists on stage. The orchestra and choir setup was amazing, the choir especially which was distributed on huge stairs climbing to the sky. But the night of 11th, the rain was here again. Johnny absolutely refused to cancel this time. This is this Sep 11th show that you just watched and the rein just added some dramatic effect to the whole performance. The orchestra was located under a tent. The choir was grouped on the floor and on some balconies (not on stairs anymore obviously) • Lara: she was at the beginning of her career in France and this performance became legendary and accelerated her fame there. She was just starting to be known in France when, in February 1998, she performed this song in duet with Johnny for Les Enfoires, the most attended France TV Show of each year. Johnny was so surprised and amazed by Lara performance that he decided to do this song again as a duet with her for the 3 big concerts a few months later. In between February and September, the album Pure from Lara had become an absolute mega hit in France, and Lara was already a star. But this live performance where she performs as a surprise guest definitely extended her fame and she got new fans across the entire country. This duet has become legendary and iconic in France, there is still at least one TV show every month coming back on this duet and exposing the behind-the-scenes moments.

It is not a Lara Fabian & Jonhny Halliday, it is a Johnny Halliday & Lara Fabian duet, Johnny invited Lara on his stage to accompany him in a song. I respect the wonderful Lara's exceptional talent, but in this one it was Johnny's day, despite her out performing him on stage that day.

Une légende... 57 ans de carrière. Pratiquement 1300 chansons en totalité.. A ce jour il à vendu plus de 111 millions d'albums, c'est énorme !! Alors imaginez s'il avait fait une carrière internationale... Il à réunie plusieurs générations. Il à réunie les riches, les moins riches et les pauvres. Il a chanté avec plusieurs grandes stars internationales. Il a chanté en plusieurs langues différentes. Etcccccc En écoutant ses chansons vous vous rendrez compte que ce très grand chanteur était capable de tout chanter.. Il y en a pour tout les goûts, rock'n'roll, rockabilly, blues, country, variété française, un album d'opéra rock (Hamlet), etccc. Une voix unique.. Especially Lara...lol It's normal that you like the version in the rain more and that Lara's performance impresses you so much because the sound of her microphone was at maximum (it resonated..) and the sound of Johnny's microphone was lower.. It was Johnny who asked for that because Lara was his guest at the Stade de France and he wanted her to demonstrate her vocal power and shine, that's all. She confirmed it. Johnny in all his generosity... Know that Johnny was a vocal power too but on this last interpretation he didn't want to because it was done on purpose, Johnny was very smart in doing that to make the song more dramatic and show their acting on this magnificent song that belongs to him.

​@@C.R1987 Not really...in the other performances it wasn't so much about lack of amplification re Lara's microphone as it was her failure(though try as she might) to reach the "noteworthy" _forgive the pun_ levels that she successfully achieved throughout the 'rain performance'. Additionally, on the non-singing front, I found the interaction between the two performers in the latter more natural ergo more compelling and engrossing whereas in the other performances that I've viewed from that string of concerts, the choreography appears a bit contrived(Dude waving some giant flag around was a real distraction) the performances, as a consequence, seem somewhat forced. Hey, it happens ..they can't all be "10's" . This wasn't an outright debacle - it merely fell short of meeting the lofty standard set by Lara herself

​@@maxine-x4x What I told you is the truth, Lara herself confirmed it... (There is another comment from another person under this video that says the same thing as me..) Know that if Johnny had wanted to sing in power he would have done it without problem and largely.. But on this last interpretation it was not the desired goal.. The desired goal was the dramatic side of the singing all in power but less than Lara (Johnny) with at the same time next to him a more striking power of singing (Lara) and the passionate game between the two. Everything was imagined by Johnny himself to end the last interpretation in beauty. A masterpiece, perhaps the most beautiful duet in the world..

To the extent that it bears no influence on my opinion heretofore expressed - I am not interested in the sensitivity of Lara's microphone or whether or not "Johnny" dialed back the intensity of his singing voice to better suit this particular duet partner in this or that performance. The original posted commentary of mine will remain as is; unaltered in that it continues to accurately reflect my sentiments and serves as a definitive statement on the controversy Despite whatever the conditions , circumstances , limitations etc. that may or may not have existed at the time each of the respective performances took place , the one delivered amid the raindrops - reigns supreme .

Don't typically reply to comments like these. I will make an exception in your case. I'm astonished that America missed out on "The RING" and simply want to bring awareness to this oversight. Some REACTORs have called this oversight criminal, insane, unimaginable, its a long list. Without KZbin I would NEVER have heard of Lara Fabian and missed a once-in-a-lifetime artist, the best voice on the planet. Fortunately we all have another chance (reminds me of a famous movie quote) so I bought my tickets to Paris Dec 2025, and have begun learning French. I found that Listening to songs in both languages is a very effective (and fun) way to learn. I'm relatively new to this KZbin/Patreon game. Some have lots of rules, require Discord, require Voting, require very high levels of support, etc. I prefer the REACTORs that allow direct Patreon interaction and care, not just about a few minutes of reactions, but more importantly, promoting a cause, like GR. I've made some mistakes, and will probably make more, but I'm determined to learn how to play the game. So far so good. Thanks for your comment.
