A legend... Johnny Hallyday was born on Tuesday, June 15, 1943, in Paris and passed away on the night of December 5 to 6, 2017, in Paris at the age of 74. He is the son of a Belgian father and a French mother. In 57 years of career, he recorded around 1300 songs. 180 songs were turned into music videos or scopitones. 758 authors and composers collaborated with Johnny. Johnny composed 105 songs himself and also composed about ten pieces for other artists. He also wrote and co-wrote a few songs. Johnny also has 545 duets with 188 different artists on 214 tracks. His first 45 RPM record was released on March 14, 1960, but it was on December 30, 1959, that he was heard for the first time on the radio in the show "Paris cocktail." On April 18, 1960, under the "patronage" of Line Renaud, he made his first television appearance in "L'école des vedettes." 57 years later, 93 certifications including 41 gold records, 4 double gold records, 23 platinum records, 8 double platinum records, 5 triple platinum records, and 12 diamond records (including one double diamond and one triple diamond) testify to an exceptional career, crowned by 10 Victories or Special Victories or Music Honor Victory. And 2 NRJ Music Awards. Johnny is the most acclaimed French artist and the one who has sold the most records in France. The number of units sold is estimated at 200 million, including more than 110 million records sold. Imagine if he had had an international career... With 805,000 sales in one week of "Mon pays c'est l'amour" (51st album) (posthumous album), Johnny was ranked No. 1 worldwide in 2018. A stage beast recognized by all, Johnny went on more than 184 tours and attracted nearly 30 million spectators throughout his career, having given more than 3502 concerts. Johnny is the only French artist whose almost complete works have been recorded in audio and video. About twenty fan clubs (approximately 10,000 members in total). Johnny is also an actor with no less than 43 films (including appearances) to his credit throughout his career. He received a "Jean Gabin" award in 2004 for the film "L'homme du train". Johnny was a good actor, but the films they offered him were not good films, unfortunately.. He dreamed of being an actor and not a singer, but life had other plans, and fortunately so!! Johnny was a great friend of animals, he always had dogs in his life, the animal cause was close to his heart, in 2002 he performed a magnificent song against those who abandon their animals. The song is titled "Au bord des routes" from the magnificent album "À la vie à la mort." In 2016, a year before his death, he was on a motorcycle road trip with friends on American roads, and it was then that he found an abandoned puppy by the side of the road. He couldn't resist and adopted her; the little dog is named "Cheyenne." He also sang a song that evokes the brutal repression by Chinese authorities of the Tiananmen Square protests in June 1989, the song is titled "Tien an men" from 1991. He was a man with a big heart. He was made a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1997, he has also been an officer of the Order of the Crown since 2001, but above all, he has been a knight of the Arts and Letters since 1995. He has sung in several languages (English, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese and German). By listening to his songs, you will realize that this great singer was capable of singing anything. There is something for everyone: rock'n'roll, rhythm and blues, soul, psychedelic rock, soft rock, pop rock, rockabilly, country, a rock opera album (Hamlet) from 1976 (This album was ahead of its time). A unique voice... His voice has continued to evolve over the years, becoming more and more powerful and precise. Johnny can be compared to the greatest singers in the world!! He brought together the rich, the less wealthy, and the poor. He brought together several generations. He gave exceptional concerts, with wild entrances like at the Parc des Princes in 1993, entering from the back of the stadium and parading through the crowd for three consecutive nights. (no one had done that before him). and he did it again in 2013 at Bercy, in 1998 he arrived by helicopter above the Stade de France, in 1984 at the Zenith he emerged from a giant hand (they had to break a wall to get the hand above the stage), in 2012 at the Stade de France he arrived in a giant flying ball resembling a mine, which landed on stage. He is the Elvis of France, sold more than 110M records WW. His concerts were huge! To give you an idea on how big he was in the french music history, just 3 anecdotes: 1. As a teenager, he was mentored by Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour themselves ! 2. He was the first one who gave his chance to a young guitarist and his band, as a supporting act to his concerts during his 1966 tour. Name of the band: the Jimi Hendrix Experience! 3. When he died in 2017, there were national funerals, with hundred of bikers on the Champs-Elysees, 1 million people long the path of the funeral procession. And this song was played when the coffin penetrated in the church. Johnny was a real vocal powerhouse, but for this concert , in this last night, best perf, the mics were balanced in favor of Lara: he wanted her to shine and found this gave more drama to the duet. • The song: this is an anthem song for him, that he used to sing alone. This was turned into a duet for Lara. The story of the song was created in reference to a very famous old french classic movie: Le Jour se Leve (1939) where the main character is barricaded and surrounded by the police, having killed a bad man who was his rival in love affairs. Here it becomes more a « Bonnie and Clyde » scene where the main character and her girlfriend are defying the police. • The venue/event: Johnny’s concerts in Stade de France ( biggest stadium in Paris and France) in front of min 80,000. Lara was one of the surprise special guest. They were supposed to perform it 3 times in a row on September 1998 (4th, 5th and 6th). The first night on the 4th, it was deluge of rain, the scene was outdoor, it was risky and they decided at the last minute, with the crowd in the stadium, to postpone it to Sep 11th . Johnny was devastated. The second night and the third night the weather was fine enough. There were 200+ musicians and 150+ chorists on stage. The orchestra and choir setup was amazing, the choir especially which was distributed on huge stairs climbing to the sky. But the night of 11th, the rain was here again. Johnny absolutely refused to cancel this time. This is this Sep 11th show that you just watched and the rein just added some dramatic effect to the whole performance. The orchestra was located under a tent. The choir was grouped on the floor and on some balconies (not on stairs anymore obviously) • Lara: she was at the beginning of her career in France and this performance became legendary and accelerated her fame there. She was just starting to be known in France when, in February 1998, she performed this song in duet with Johnny for Les Enfoires, the most attended France TV Show of each year. Johnny was so surprised and amazed by Lara performance that he decided to do this song again as a duet with her for the 3 big concerts a few months later. In between February and September, the album Pure from Lara had become an absolute mega hit in France, and Lara was already a star. But this live performance where she performs as a surprise guest definitely extended her fame and she got new fans across the entire country. This duet has become legendary and iconic in France, there is still at least one TV show every month coming back on this duet and exposing the behind-the-scenes moments.

It is not a Lara Fabian & Jonhny Halliday, it is a Johnny Halliday & Lara Fabian duet, Johnny invited Lara on his stage to accompany him in a song. I respect the wonderful Lara's exceptional talent, but in this one it was Johnny's day, despite her out performing him on stage that day.

Especially Lara...lol It's normal that you like the version in the rain more and that Lara's performance impresses you so much because the sound of her microphone was at maximum (it resonated..) and the sound of Johnny's microphone was lower.. It was Johnny who asked for that because Lara was his guest at the Stade de France and he wanted her to demonstrate her vocal power and shine, that's all. She confirmed it. Johnny in all his generosity... Know that Johnny was a vocal power too but on this last interpretation he didn't want to because it was done on purpose, Johnny was very smart in doing that to make the song more dramatic and show their acting on this magnificent song that belongs to him.

​@@C.R1987 Not really...in the other performances it wasn't so much about lack of amplification re Lara's microphone as it was her failure(though try as she might) to reach the "noteworthy" _forgive the pun_ levels that she successfully achieved throughout the 'rain performance'. Additionally, on the non-singing front, I found the interaction between the two performers in the latter more natural ergo more compelling and engrossing whereas in the other performances that I've viewed from that string of concerts, the choreography appears a bit contrived(Dude waving some giant flag around was a real distraction) the performances, as a consequence, seem somewhat forced. Hey, it happens ..they can't all be "10's" . This wasn't an outright debacle - it merely fell short of meeting the lofty standard set by Lara herself

​@@maxine-x4x What I told you is the truth, Lara herself confirmed it... (There is another comment from another person under this video that says the same thing as me..) Know that if Johnny had wanted to sing in power he would have done it without problem and largely.. But on this last interpretation it was not the desired goal.. The desired goal was the dramatic side of the singing all in power but less than Lara (Johnny) with at the same time next to him a more striking power of singing (Lara) and the passionate game between the two. Everything was imagined by Johnny himself to end the last interpretation in beauty. A masterpiece, perhaps the most beautiful duet in the world..

To the extent that it bears no influence on my opinion heretofore expressed - I am not interested in the sensitivity of Lara's microphone or whether or not "Johnny" dialed back the intensity of his singing voice to better suit this particular duet partner in this or that performance. The original posted commentary of mine will remain as is; unaltered in that it continues to accurately reflect my sentiments and serves as a definitive statement on the controversy Despite whatever the conditions , circumstances , limitations etc. that may or may not have existed at the time each of the respective performances took place , the one delivered amid the raindrops - reigns supreme .

Don't typically reply to comments like these. I will make an exception in your case. I'm astonished that America missed out on "The RING" and simply want to bring awareness to this oversight. Some REACTORs have called this oversight criminal, insane, unimaginable, its a long list. Without KZbin I would NEVER have heard of Lara Fabian and missed a once-in-a-lifetime artist, the best voice on the planet. Fortunately we all have another chance (reminds me of a famous movie quote) so I bought my tickets to Paris Dec 2025, and have begun learning French. I found that Listening to songs in both languages is a very effective (and fun) way to learn. I'm relatively new to this KZbin/Patreon game. Some have lots of rules, require Discord, require Voting, require very high levels of support, etc. I prefer the REACTORs that allow direct Patreon interaction and care, not just about a few minutes of reactions, but more importantly, promoting a cause, like GR. I've made some mistakes, and will probably make more, but I'm determined to learn how to play the game. So far so good. Thanks for your comment.
