I saw this movie when it came out and went home and told my Mom about it She started to cry and it wasn't until then I found she and her family came out of the Ukraine on those trains at that time. This movie set my concept of what True love could be. The emotional connection at the deepest level. The soul mate concept. It became real for me all through my young adult years. I won the music competition at school, playing this on violin. There were two initial rounds (which I won) followed by the final when all bonuses for difficulty etc were removed. This affected all scores but fortunately there was a Senior Prize (the biggest aggregate of points) and I won this by a wide margin. I was about 10 when this movie came out, still young enough to go with my family (back when major studios still made movies whole families could see). Mom later took me back to see the matinee three or four times. Such a great movie, the romance part went mostly over my head although while Julie Christie was absurdly beautiful I remember thinking I would have liked Geraldine Chaplin. Mom died recently at 100. Think of her when I hear this - the beautiful happily married suburban housewife with a dweeby kid and maybe just a tiny crush on Omar Shariff.

One of my all time favorite films. My mother took me to see it in the theater more than 50 years ago. I fell in love with the story and the beautiful wintery landscapes portrayed. This song has always enchanted me.
