When Eric Dickerson was traded the following season, it broke my heart. If he stayed with the Rams, I really believe they would've got to the Super Bowl.

nah. ED was great but the league was trending towards the passing game. we needed a QB , that's why we traded him. not saying Jim Everett was the answer. but the front office approach was correct

@@bconni2 You're right about the NFL heading towards the passing game in the late 1980s and into the 1990s. But trading Eric Dickerson was dumb. Jim Everett threw for all them yards and TD passes and excited countless Rams fans across California, but just imagine what the Rams would have been in the Everett years if he had Dickerson by his side? After Dickerson left, the Rams only had two more winning seasons (1988 and 1989) while Everett was their main QB from 1987 to 1993. The running backs the Rams used in the Everett years (1987 to 1992 especially) were nowhere near the caliber of Dickerson. Charles White, Greg Bell, Cleveland Gary, Robert Delpino, Gaston Green, Buford McGee, Marcus Dupree, David Lang and others couldn't even add up collectively to what Dickerson could've done individually for the Rams from 1987 to 1992. Everett didn't even get a true great running back until Jerome Bettis came around in 1993, but by then Everett was on his way out of Anaheim.

1986 marks the last time the Rams made the playoffs in a year divisible by 6. They notably failed to do so in 2022 when they were the defending Super Bowl champions, in fact finishing with the worst ever winning percentage by a defending champion (displacing the 1982 edition of division rivals 49ers as the holder of that record).

Correction - they made the playoffs in 2004 but they went 8-8 in doing so. Thus, 1986 marks the most recent year divisible by 6 in which they had a winning season.

Wish we could have kept Dickerson and added Everett. We would have won a Superbowl. Beating the Eagles and Giants in the playoffs a few years later was the last hurrah. After 25 years being a super fan, in 1995 that was it. They came back and cant even wear the old uniforms. ARRGH
