So, you don't need to take your pack to the top!

We've been told that, but is that really true? 😉

@@itstonz You can set up your gear at the camping area. It's out of the way and other people don't even realise it is there. I was on my touring bike and left everything there. And I've been twice.

Hi Tony and Elka Just wondering if you have any details regarding your food planning listed somewhere. Really liked your TA series and would love to hear more from you about your planning logistics. The food planning very much appeals to our preference as hikers. Planning to do TA in 2026. The question is SoBo or NoBo Cheers Stevie and Nics❤

Hi guys, glad you enjoy our wee adventures. We don’t have anything written down logistically wise, but are more that happy to help a little. We went NOBO because it was easier to get there from home in Christchurch and we were starting later. If you are planning on doing the full trail most pick SOBO, it allows you get get a bit fit on the slightly easier Nth Island and logistics is easier too. You will be around more people and going town to town easier. South Island is the better part of the trail (I’m not just saying that because it’s my home). We noticed more road walking in the North and less highlights. If you are keen on just South Island I’d go NOBO. You get to build into it a bit and hit the Richmond’s fully trail fit which helps the enjoyment. We sent food boxes (going NOBO) to Arthurs Pass, Boyle River Outdoor Centre, St Armurd and Matahika Outdoor Centre just after the Tararua Range in North Island. We were happy with our NOBO decision, but I think we’d probably do it SOBO if we went again so as to finish on South Island. We did do it during the border closure so the number of people was way down. The only thing that might change our mind is that you’ll be in a big bubble going SOBO where as NOBO you’ll potentially pass through said bubble. I hope this helped a little. Excited for you adventure. Cheers Elkie and Tony

@@itstonz hi Elkie and Tony Thank you for your informative and detailed reply, we very much appreciated your feedback. We were thinking of doing a SoNobo😝, however your suggestion re Nobo fitness tips sound great 👍. We have a place in Wanaka and hopefully 🤞 will be starting September 2026 as a right of passage in returning to NZ from Oz. Your suggestion re food boxes was great tips and insightful 😃 Hope we get to cross paths sometime 😃😃 Kindest regards Stevie Nics xx
