@erik johansen Actually with excellent training, once you have practiced technique to the point where it has become part of your muscle memory, you can focus more on being in the moment. I won't deny that singing on the level of some of the best, requires the physicality and stamina of an athlete. While it isn't like getting up from a chair. Practice and daily vocal exercises facilitates performance much in the way of an athlete training before the game. If you do the prep work, singing with control, is that much easier.

How right you are! Over 20 years ago, on a beautiful beach in Jamaica, she sang Caruso for me. I did not know who she was then. We shared a ride to the hotel and bonded over our love of music, classical literature and all things Italy. Her voice exuded such controlled power and emotion that i sat there absolutely dumbfounded and speechless. I'll never forget that moment.

I remember seeing her on what I think was the academy awards or Emys and she just stood up from the audience and delivered a song like very few people could, a voice to rival Celine Dion etc. It was simply amazing and I don't think the audience knew what had hit them.
