Imani Williams has just moved into town and is searching for a place to eat lunch when she sees at advertisement for an all-you-can-eat buffet. Despite the restaurant being empty, she decides to give it a try. After helping herself to several portions of food, the waitress comes over and gives her the check. Imani notices she has been charged double, for two full meals. The waitress, thinking it is a simple error, returns to the manager to make the change to Ms. Williams' bill. However, the manager is adamant about charging the customer twice, saying she has eaten enough for three people! Imani is obviously upset, but keeps her cool and convinces the fat shaming manager to see the error of her ways.

It’s called an all you can eat buffet for a reason. The city just makes me extremely angry. The point of an all you can eat buffet is to eat until you no longer feel like eating anymore. Also dessert is usually included in all you can eat buffet. You pay one price and you eat all you can and that’s it.

I'm a normal sized white/hispanic woman and I dine out alone out alot because I'm tired after a full day's work and don't want to go home to start cooking and this happens often to me at sushi places. I don't know why that is so. Probably because I'm a woman alone so they predict I won't leave a large tip or because they don't respect a woman without a male escort in their culture but I have had to cut down on my sushi outings for this reason. They have their eyes like a hawk so what's the use of paying an all you can eat sushi dinner? I make good money and tip well but I am tired of their preconceived notions of me so I minimize my outings.

I know that feeling. Years ago, a friend, her 2 year old and I went to an Asian, all you can eat buffet too. We paid first. They make you. We got a salad and multi items for the toddler and sat down to eat. After we finished our salad, the manager came over and told us that they were closed. We didn't know that they closed from 2;00 until 5:00 dinner time. We had been there about 15 minutes. I felt that that should have told us that before we paid. We were willing to leave. Just give us a container for the baby's food. He refused, since it was not a take out. So, we refused to leave. We let the baby finish his meal and WE went and got more food. They were sooo mad but we didn't care. We left about 20 minutes later. I went back years later for a take out. This was before they started weighing the food. I got my money's worth this time.

That's a good point. Her whole excuse is that people are struggling because of the pandemic, so they come to the all you can eat buffet for the free food. I've been to an all you can eat buffet. You just pay to get in, So I understand that (free food, I don't have to pay and can save what little money I have. Cool), but why charge for the food? At an all you can eat, you don't ever secretly add extra charges. If you are going to charge people for extra trips which I think is stupid, you let the public know ahead of time. Not keep it a secret. Why keep it a secret? Is the place too worried that the info would fall into the wrong hands???? Restaurants are open to the public and you don't EVER fat shame anybody. You don't ever discriminate. If you are worried about struggling during the pandemic, the best way to stay afloat is to treat your customers with respect. Otherwise, they can find somewhere else to eat and that can cause you to lose even more money real fast.

Nope, if I were in that situation, I wouldn't give an inch of room for apologies. First, I'd give the manager a piece of my mind, with lots of cussing. Then I'd go off on the waitress for letting her boss treat me like that, then tell her she is NOT getting a tip, then I'd pay for just ONE charge, not the double before telling them both, 'I'll be writing negative reviews about your restaurant.' Then storm out. I have no tolerence for bad customer service.

What part of “All You Can Eat Buffet” did the lady not understand? If it wasn’t that, and you had to wait for the waiter to take your order, people would understand that you had to order once and make it count. Now I worked at a Smorgasbord all you can eat restaurant when I was in college. The restaurants aren't allowed to do leftovers so whatever is leftover is thrown out, such a waste of food would feed hundreds in third world countries.
