The young educated youths can take up organic large cardamom farming scientifically. Through this farming, you can become independent and earn a living. Implementing this farming through an agroforestry system will double your income. Besides, the trees planted with the large cardamom help In tackling climate change by sequestering the atmospheric greenhouse gases. So, this agroforestry model has the potential in doubling your income as well as tackling climate change and global warming.
So, anyone who is interested in this type of farming should start and should give it a try. You will not regret it in your life.
Talkharka is my village. It comes under the Regu gram panchayat unit, under Regu Block Administrative Center, Rongli, Pakyong District, Sikkim, India. It is a small hamlet. Rai is the major community in this village. The Rai community are a nature worshipper. Since time immemorial we are practising it. Parung and Sumina are our father and mother. So, likewise, we have been practising large cardamom farming for 5 decades. Everyone in our village is a grower of large cardamom. They take this farming seriously. Some are fully dependent on this farming for their livelihoods. But recently the chirkey and furkey viruses have drastically damaged the plantations, so there has been a reduction in the production as well as in the market value.
Even with these huge casualties and set back our growers are not yet discouraged, but instead, they have started growing the new variety known as Regulang variety. Slowly, the production is coming back with this new variety.
Apart from large cardamom farming now the villagers are also slowly taking up alternative sources of livelihood through ecotourism and homestays under the banner name Talkharka Village Tourism Development Committee. For this, the WWF is working tirelessly day and night to promote village tourism and ecotourism. Now slowly the pace is taking up. The village tourism committee have started numerous activities viz., including organic farming, organic bee farming, hiking, trekking, fishing, cultural programme, so and so forth.
If interested can join in this extravaganza journey and help promote this village as the next ecotourism and village tourism destination.

Nowadays, it's around INR 500-600/kg. There has drastically price reduction. 5-6 years ago it was INR 1000-1200/Kg.
