I just restocked my freezers and pantries. I have a 23 cubic foot upright freezer and a 5.5 cubic chest freezer. Plus, I have my refrigerator freezer. I have 2 pantries. One up here and a large one in the basement. My 2 freezers are also in the basement. It took me just over 2 months to get everything restocked. I'm 71 years old and live alone. I live on my Social Security retirement check. So all of my funds are budgeted. I was able to go over budget both months some. Praise God for just the little things He does for me. I live in North Central Iowa. We have been getting temperatures in the low 20s during the day and in the negatives over night. Tomorrow is suppose to be even colder. I don't like going out if I don't need to.

I love making sourdough! It does require a little more planning ahead and it does take longer to make but it’s worth it! Once you start, you won’t go back to any other bread!
@OurCrowsNest512 күн бұрын
So it begins with a starter correct? And then you feed it every so often, and then you're able to take some of that starter and begin baking with it? I'm sure I'd absolutely LOVE to do it!

We are in Minnesota and most of the eggs here are about 5.00 a dozen , although Costco has them at a better price , about 3.50 a dozen if you buy the 5 dozen pack , if they have it , they’ve been in short supply
@OurCrowsNest511 күн бұрын
Oh wow Angela, $3.50 for the 5 dozen is an excellent price! I was just commenting, that there was a lady in the egg fridge putting literal stacks of eggs into her cart! Are there no limits right now?! I didn't even think to look, I just bought what I/we needed, but I imagine they were maybe for her small business?

I can’t believe it. I think prices are actually cheaper than central Texas 😮

Here in southern Oregon, a dozen regular large eggs at Walmart are $7.42😱 I’m so thankful that we have chickens!
@OurCrowsNest511 күн бұрын
Oh I so WISH I could have chickens! That is one of my dreams, to be able to have just a little bit of land to have chickens and a nice sized garden to grow essentials. How many chickens do you have and how much do they produce? Thanks for this Cheryl! ♥
@cherylmackenzie50411 күн бұрын
I hope you get your dream someday! We have an acre and have a large garden too. We have 14 Leghorn chickens. They lay about 350 large eggs per year. They are just plain white, but they lay more than other breeds. We get anywhere from 8-13 eggs a day now that it’s winter.

How in the world was TJ's $4?! That's incredible, I wish my TJ's wasn't 45 minutes away, or I'd be there! Super happy with our Verona, it's a nice change from what we usually get! ☺

Yes it’s time consuming to make sourdough bread. Other sourdough recipes are so much easier and faster (like cinnamon rolls, garlic knots, tortillas,etc).
@OurCrowsNest511 күн бұрын
No way?! I would think cinnamon rolls would be so much harder to make than regular sliced sourdough! Maybe I should make that a NY's resolution (I never do them, but this would be a fun one to at least attempt!)😍

I buy those chicken breast too but i butterfly them and cut in half to save meat and money and it's plenty. I food save the divided pkgs and freeze.
@OurCrowsNest511 күн бұрын
Fantasic idea, thank you for this! Some of the breasts are definitely thick enough to do that too! Last month, one of my packages has one TINY breast in it. ONE! It wasn't even large enough to feed my younger son, it was so small!

Eggs are absolutely crazy in my area. Walmart is like $6-7 for 18. So I’ve been buying them at Costco for the last couple months. As they’ve been way cheaper.
@OurCrowsNest511 күн бұрын
Girl I can't believe it, I hope they come down soon! My mom went to Target yesterdayto buy a dozen, and she said she paid $8😭 When I went to Costco, there was a lady putting literal STACKS of the 24 count eggs into her basket. I scooted on in cause I just wanted 1 package, but was thinking, dang, shouldn't there be a limit? And this was around 10am, so unless they restock throughout the day, there was no way families that came later in the day would be able to snag any.

Our Eggs at Sam’s club this week were $7.99 for 18 Pasture Raised. There were not many eggs to choose from. We are in Central Virginia. We don’t have a Costco near us. I think it’s cause of the bird flu.
@OurCrowsNest511 күн бұрын
Oh my Karen, I hope the prices come down soon! We eat 1 dozen at breakfast on Saturdays and sometimes Sunday's , but I didn't want to buy a ton of them as I'm sure there are others who need more. There was a lady that was putting stacks of the 24 count into her cart! I imagine she has a restaurant or baking business? But couldn't believe the amount that was in her cart, are there no limits right now?
