I appreciate your humility and just walking us through the demo. Gretschs produce amazing tones that have been ovelooked for years, IMO, I also lean towards the smaller body as its more practical for practice and you're not really losing anything as far as tone or sound.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the size comparison its helped me narrow down what I am looking for in a Gretsch. I am very new to the world of electric guitars (and guitars in general, I'm a 20 year old player with only a few months experience). I'd heard that some of the cheaper models have some issues with tuning retention, particularly those with the bigsby tremolo. Part of me wants a model with tremolo because honestly, no matter how silly, I think they really complete the look. Plus having a tremolo to play around with sounds cool, though I'm sure it likely wouldn't get a whole lot of use. If you have any words to the wise I'd appreciate it, Cheers.

Thanks for watching and for the comment. I have not had any real tuning stability issues with mine at all. Being semi hollow there can be a tad drift with temperature, most guitars will get that but nothing bad. Good strings with one wrap over top of the post hole and 4 turns below cures most tuning issues with any guitar in my experience. I like the Bigsby, great for subtle use and works well. These guitars are great value, well worth trying out. The Epiphone DOT is similar money too. I did a comparrison video on this too. Always happy to help if I can.

Thanks for the comparison- they are great guitars, especially when on sale. I had a G2655T and wanted to try an Electromatic, so I picked up the G5410T (similar configuration to your G2420T). I do like the tone of the 5410- not necessarily better, just different, and the playability out of the box is a hair better. Still on the fence about the large body though, as I damaged my right arm a few months ago and it's somewhat uncomfortable for me. The setup on both guitars was great and I haven't changed a thing. 👍

Thank you! Yep superb guitars and great value. Love the way they play and feel, superb necks. Just bought a 5230T very impressed great quality and superb pick ups.

I seemed that in most examples, the 2655 sounded a bit "clearer" (through small computer monitors), perhaps because the mic was picking up the acoustics of the 2420 as well. The pickups being (slightly?) different might also have something to do with it. I just bought a G2420T used/mint at a good price, with the BT3 pickups and coil split, just to have a larger bodied guitar, and one with a Bigsby. I have an Electromatic, and its tone is considerably different than my humbucker Les Paul Special or P90 Junior, and certainly different than the Telecaster. Thanks for doing the review. I can't wait for my new one to get here.

Thanks for watching and for the comments. Both guitars are fab, Broadtron pups but different versions to match the body size I guess. I use a raised mic (Shure SM57) in front of the amp that is 5ft above ground so its well away from the played and static guitars. Think the electromatic have Filtertron pups, great sound and very different from Epiphone probuckers and even Gibson burstbuckers. Have fun with the new Gretsch!

Will a fit a neck gibson humbucker?
@stevegroves Жыл бұрын
The Broadtrons are slightly larger than Gibson humbuckers, so guess a Gibson pickup will fit the cavity but the mounting holes for the pick up rings will be slighty out so couldn't fit mounting screws into the existing holes.

Will the big one play some good Nugent?
@stevegroves9 ай бұрын
Possibly, it seemed a really versatile guitar, even with some overdrive etc. It belonged to a friend so no longer have it to try.

Isn't that G2420 a full hollowbody? Pretty sure....
@stevegroves Жыл бұрын
Hi, Just checked spec on PMT and states a centre block, could be wrong though.
@stevegroves Жыл бұрын
Looks like the G2420 is fully hollow the G2420T has a centre block, maybe the T has the block due to having a Bigsby.
