Coming from an engineering field, I’m very allergic to bullshit everywhere on the KZbin. That’s why I love your videos so much - it’s spot-on analytical, I can see a proof of concept for each tip you give, you are honest with failures (great way to learn), you make everything so easy to understand and fun to watch. What shocks me the most is the fact, that you do it for free. THANK YOU! And congrats on 100k subscribers

I happened to pass by a private property with one that had leaves of almost 1 meter long. It was climbing all over the exterior walls of that house. At first I couldn't tell what plant it was till I followed the stem trail all the way down to the bottom of the wall and I could not make sense of it. I didn't believe it. at the bottom it has the usual small photos leaves and at the top the leaves were huge.. enough to create a shaded spot to stand in.

Currently in India and the pothos here grow huge. on some plants a single leaf is 2-3 times the size of my head. The wild aroids here are also amazing. Definitely worth a visit if you are a plant lover.

Your a hobby grower but you have taught so many people a lot they didn’t know about plants. I subscribed to other plant channels and I truly believe you created “chop and extend” now everyone is doing it with their big plants. 😊 Pothos are one of my favorite plants of all my plants I recently got a manjula since I saw yours I’m going to try to grow it on a moss pole

You are definitly one of the best when it comes to tropical plants. You may not know the science but you have the intinct and that usually goes farther with caring for something. My girlfiend's mom passed away and she had a pothos she liked a lot just growing out of control in a bin. I fixed it up for her and took some cutting which have started growing but I hope I can get them to grow this big for her. I'm sure she'd love to see her mom's favorite plant in a whole new light.

Can I have a moment to review this channel? This gonna be a long one. I'm 100% positive I wouldn't get any aroids if Jan hadn't created a KZbin channel and if I hadn't come across his channel. PLANT CARE. From the beginning, I literally followed EVERY BITS of his recommendations - from pole diameter, pole height, nursery pot size, nursery pot colour, aroid mix ingredients, bottle-flipping watering technique, fertiliser brand, growlight hours, fan brand, furniture brand, furniture colour, decorative pot colour, plant arrangements, plant location, petiole-tying technique to chop and extend technique. I know I could follow his advice, NOT BLINDLY but rationally, because I'm in the same country as him, I live in a similar home environment as him, and most importantly I've got a similar sense of aesthetic as him. The only thing I didn't adopt was the growlight he used, too expensive in my opinion, so I ended up arranging a few cheaper alternatives vertically to fit the same functionality. PLANT SELECTION. I force myself NOT TO get every plant Jan owns, though scrolling his Instagram is like looking at a plant menu. Instead, I ONLY pick plants that I really like, those could thrive in my environment, and those growing patterns I could handle. To apply one of his best advice here, I ONLY get plant babies, so that they could get used to my care and environment in order to grow healthily into their more mature form. Now I've got M. Siltepecana, M. Siltepecana El Salvador, M. Dubia, M. Borsigiana, M. Adansonii, E. Manjula, E. Cebu Blue, E. Pinnatum, P. Glorious, P. Splendid, P. Micans, P. Ernestii, P. Florida, P. Brandtianum, S. Mojito, A. Vittarifolium, A. Magnificum X, A. Hoffmanii X, and O. Triangularis. FINAL THOUGHTS. Over the past 8 months, I started out as a uni kid studying health without any knowledge about plants, but I gave myself a chance to try something new outside my speciality, and I think I've found my new passion. I appreciate nature even more than ever. This channel really gives a very thorough care advice about aroids. I see NO REASONS you can't be a proud plant parent even if you're pretty new to this. To quote what Jan always says - Happy growing!

This plant is just gorgeous. Thanks for the spotlight on it. You're 100% right about European houses and humidity. If we had 80% humidity inside, we would never get it out and have mold on the wallpaper within days. Mold due to high humidity is a very big topic here. Our houses are just built too sealed up.
@dominika3762
@dominika3762 Жыл бұрын
Well, our houses have to be well insulated, since we have freezing temperatures/close to 0 for months. But actually, in Poland, our windows aren't as tight as they could be, it's safety law to have an airflow. Also, in my apartment building, we have yearly check-ups if our ventilation system is working.
@dominika3762
@dominika3762 Жыл бұрын
For us to get 80% humidity we would have to be sealed up. When my ventilation was closed by accident, I got to 70-80% humidity in a few days, just due to drying clothes and baths/showers. When we fixed the ventilation it took our flat one or two days to get to 40%.
@petrescuework-difficultcas6581
@petrescuework-difficultcas6581 Жыл бұрын
@@dominika3762 I'm in Germany and we don't have air flow in our three-pane-windows and we also don't have a ventilation system. The only opportunity for us to reduce humidity, is to actually open the windows, in summer and winter, despite the temperature.

Thank you for another fabulous and wonderfully educational episode! I know pothos are the gold standard for beginners. For experimenting w prop. Etc. tbh pothos hate me. Or I am horrible w them. I’ve mastered “hard” aroids. But the many kids of pothos I’m down to one vine of marble queen and a healthy pot of manjula. Mine have taken a dump w every substrate after a nice growth period. So far moss w a d shaped pole seems to keep her happy. If I’d watched this years ago, she’s prob extremely tall by now

What are your thoughts on feeding extra iron to your variegated plants for the green?
@sydneyplantguy
@sydneyplantguy Жыл бұрын
No need to just feed one mineral. Plants need minerals in a specific dillution/balance of all minerals so I use a liquid nutrient fertiliser.

So just found your channel, great content 😊, yup the question can the manjula be cut up and put on other moss poles to continue to grow or will it die?

I'm really curious. Is there a reason you only have one stem from your moss pole plants growing up the pole? Would it be possible to have one or a few stems wrapping around the moss pole and being beautiful all the way around or would that take too much energy from the plant? I'm not sure how I will see your answer because I never see my answers but I hope I can get the answer to that. By the way I am new to your channel and absolutely love it and your plants just make me want to cry lol they're so beautiful and I've learned another whole new avenue for growing which I am anxious to try. Thank you thank you thank you.

Your pothos looks great! I have no idea what I am doing wrong but my pothos don't grow any aerial roots. It grows very fast, but no leaf size increase and no aerial roots.

@Sydney Plant Guy i thought about it but it's in front of a window that never gets direct sunshine, but it's very bright (as bright as it gets in gloomy England 🤣). Thank you for the suggestion.

Wow! I grow pothos because I love the trailing look, but this is really gorgeous and impressive too! My grocery store golden pothos grow about a foot a month in my SE-facing windows. Do they slow down heightwise when they size up?

Yes the internodal spacing decreases with maturity but also with light exposure. If it grows leggy, them it wants more light :)

Hey there, I love your content, I’m am a double green thumber,meaning I can turn a dead stick into something green. I’ve had pothos and indoor plants my entire life, actually have a golden that is 25 years old that has traveled from Austria to the USA. Her name is Lucy and I have gifted at least 40 babies from her. Yes I’m old. I was going to ask about fertilizer ( then heard what you said) because I have NEVER had leaves as big as yours, of course I never knew about moss poles either. I would love for you to dedicate a video about fertilizer, maybe do some reviews on different types. That would be lovely. Thanks so much and keep ‘em coming.

Do you happen to know what causes the brown spots that can occur on the white parts of the Manjula leaves? I feel like every one I’ve ever gotten has ended up with these spots 🫤. And what was the link for the mother grow lights please? Congrats on your 100K subscribers 🎉

Thanks for your content! I have a couple of questions. Why do you only let your vertical plants grow on one side and not circle them around the pole? Is it an aesthetic choice or is there a different reason? What pot diameter do you recommend for small plants if I already want to put the pole in them? Thank you very much and greetings from Naples, Italy ❤

Hi! Love your videos! quick question, how do you prevent/treat fungus gnats in moss poles? with soil, I think you can afford to let it dry out a bit which would deter fungus gnats, but what about moss poles that are kept consistently moist? thank you!

So you dont tie up your plants at all but let them climb by themselves? Does this only work with these "fresh" moss poles or the dry kinds too? Thank you for making the best plant videos
@sydneyplantguy
@sydneyplantguy Жыл бұрын
That's correct. No technically plants can attach to anything but the moss poles help out & make the plants job easier, especially in an indoor environment where conditions are never perfect in the first place
