If you're gonna be gone 2 months I'd leave the grass. The trees won't break growing speed records, but the shade will help them survive 👍

You’re right, and we’ll see if it keeps the deer from finding them.

You might want to put some indicators for those trees, just so you don't accidentally step on them

If you're interested in hand digging swales and water diversion, you should check out Edible Acres' channel. He's got some very good videos on the subject, including shovel techniques that are easier on the back. That said, you've really started something good and I'm interested to see how it develops.

Thank you. Edible acres has lots of helpful videos, I’ll look for the one you mentioned!

If you can find ground cover that mainly propagate from cuttings would be easier for you. Perhaps species of grass that only propagate from cuttings and dividing the clump. You can simple chop and drop around the trees.

Could you go in with a strimmer to mulch?

Nice work. New sub here. I am also into permaculture, organic, food forest concept going to sustainable agriculture but sad to say that I have been laughed and criticized by the closest members of family. Close minded people that are so extremely self centered (with superiority complex) that anything that doesn't align with their knowledge, belief and ideals are being labelled inferior or insane.

Swales we're almost full in heavy rains jus another heavy rain would spil out evryware and cause erosion havoc whats the solution
@jennzhangcn Жыл бұрын
I hope swales will turn high desert into green pasture land. The area I intend to purchase some land with only about 18” annual rainfall. Anyone has any idea if it is possible?
@hqprivat Жыл бұрын
It can be done. Search for ‘greening the desert’ from Geoff Lawton. Those videos may give you some inspiration. Good luck with your project.

Why are the deer not eating your young trees?
@nigelsearthprojects Жыл бұрын
I have noticed they avoid certain trees and eat others. They like to eat mulberries and tulip poplar but have left the hickories and walnuts alone.
