"These rollers are a safety feature and are generally reversible for situations where a branch gets caught on clothing" - what? They control the feed rate of the material and help prevent the debris shooting out. It's nothing to do with branches catching on clothing.

Stopping stuff shooting out is obvious because they help cover the spinning blades. If you look at any video where a branch is fed in with the roller raised you can see the chips flying out. You can also see the drum holds the wood and if the motor slows it will stop and keep the wood out of the blades so they come up to speed. They may also reverse to clear the material from the blades. Where they can't do this, wood keeps going in and blades start to lug. The smaller ones will often have a bar that stops the feed mechanism should it be pressed. This isn't because the drum makes it safer but because they getting caught on the material is a real possibility - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodchipper#Drum.

THESE ARE PRETTY GOOD TREES!! WHY CHIP THEM??? THEY CAN BE USED FOR LUMBER. WHAT A WASTE. YOU COULDVE SENT THEM TO THE MILL AND GOT PAID GOOD MONEY FOR THOSE TREES.
@helookalikaman797 жыл бұрын
The first clip why waste all that wood? make 2x4's etc. then chip up the rest
@bunnywarren7 жыл бұрын
Probably because the buyers want chips rather than 2x4s.
@helookalikaman797 жыл бұрын
ah then buy wood that was chips left over from cutting out 2x4's
@bunnywarren7 жыл бұрын
Making 2x4's takes more complex machinery so they would have to transport the logs to a processing plant. The chipping can be done more local to the felling. The chipping around me is simply to remove the waste wood and make a small amount of money on it. They don't want to have to sort out the logs or do any complex processing on them.
