Largest Affordable Housing Project in East Africa Kisumu Kenya. Makasembo nears completion.

The affordable housing projects by Lapfund and the Government of Kenya in partnership with county government of Kisumu is at advanced stage. Final touches are being done on some towers. It is the largest Affordable Housing Project Currently in East Africa.

This is good! I think what the government is lacking is a formidable way to enlighten and educate the citizenry about its plans of building affordable housing. They fail at communicating and articulating their agenda to the public. We as Kenyans are used to governments of the day taking advantage of us not helping us. I am also thinking, if the government of Kenya eradicated Kibera slums and came up with permanent housing structures that can house the populace there, that would make it easier to sell the affordable housing levy to the citizens of Kenya. Of course the Kibera initiative would not be commercially viable but it would have earned the government it's respect among the citizens and also internationally to even get funding via other avenues not necessarily relying on taxation to embark on other similar initiatives.

@@chrisamoi8663 This project is funded by lap fund,those affordable housing you see in Ruiru and Nakuru are being done by Kings developers,affordable housing in mombasa by a private developer and many other projects in Kenya.None is being done by that housing levy that this government is talking about yet they are collecting billions from it.

How fast can some people forget, Makasembo project was launched in 18th may 2022 by Rt. Hon. Raila, it is to be funded by the county gov. workers pension scheme and the local authorities provident fund. Each of the evicted was paid sh.96000. This is not part of Rutos housing levy which is being done by milking Kenyans.

Makasembo has 2000 units. That's not even 50% of Nyayo (second largest in Africa with 4700 units) & Stoni Athi (10,000 units). Makasembo is the third largest affordable housing project ever in Kenya & East Africa. Most likely 6th largest in Africa.

When we say affordable housing for Kenyans, it should strictly be for Kenyans! No foreigners or immigrants should be allowed to buy these houses! Unfortunately, most of these houses especially in Nairobi end up being bought by Somalis and other immigrants! How does this solve the housing crisis really?
