Largest blue diamond set to fetch US$48 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong auction

A 15-carat De Beers Cullinan Blue diamond will go under the hammer at Hong Kong's Sotheby's in April 2022. The diamond is rare in terms of size, colour and cut, and has been graded as a Fancy Vivid Blue by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). It is the largest and most valuable blue diamond ever to go on the block and is expected to fetch over US$48 million.

If you have 50 billion dollars, this prive tag loses its meaning. You think they are asking a lot. 48 million to a person that has 50 billion is the equivalent of asking you for 48 dollars, if you have 50,000 in the bank. If you have 50 in the bank, think 5 cents.

Fun fact Rolls Royce's SUV, the Cullinan, is named after this Cullinan diamond. Now, if someone actually paid almost $50,000,000 for that diamond, the same amount could have bought them a fleet of almost 100 Rolls Royce Cullinans, each costing around $500K to $700K depending on the options and this suv is arguably the 'most opulent and luxurious' of all and it is definitely the world's most expensive production suv so far. Extremely unequal yet crazy world isn't it?

Lol the only reason why is expensive because the supply is controlled to keep price high. Simple supply demand economic theory.
