Very interesting and very well done.. Like the musical accompaniment. When a city changes its affiliation (say London goes from being the largest city in England to the largest in the UK), you might keep its rectangle unchanged but simply change the affiliation label rather than have it disappear under old affiliation and reappear under the new one. Some viewers may find this modification less distracting when viewing the relative changes among the ranking of cities.

Naples between 1713 and 1804 is mislabelled. The city wasn't part of the Spanish Empire in that time period. Vienna is also mislabelled between 1791 and 1803, since the "Austrian Empire" didn't exist yet. "Habsburg Monarchy" could have been a more accurate label, but the most accurate label would have been either "(Archduchy of) Austria" or "Holy Roman Empire".

The first city which is shown here to reach 1 million population is Beijing in 1775, however, this was not the first city in history to reach 1 million. Rome reached 1 million population in 133 BC but after the Roman Empire fell the population drastically fell.

New York has 8.8m inhabitants (2020, wikipedia), not 18,937m in 2023 as indicated in this video Moscow has 13.1m inhabitants (2023, wikipedia) Now, if you talk about the New York Metropolitan Area, its population is 20m while Moscow region (incl. The quality of life in both cities is improving. It's different from the west doesn't mean it's not better. It's certainly better than a lot of cities in West like New York where you can easily get mugged in the subway or might get shot by any random stranger.
