After running trains for many years, the idea of automated trains absolutely scares me. I have seen many remote operated trains breaking a number of safety rules; and I've heard of unreported derailments all of which were unreported while the RC train was hauling dangerous chemicals through populated areas.

When I was 8 yrs old, my sister was 7, and my brother was 4 with our parents. we were moving here to the U.S. from Australia. We rode on the Indian-Pacific going from Perth to Sydney. It took us 3 days to cross the country. To this day, I have some wonderful memories riding on that train.

@patriciaposthumus6684
@patriciaposthumus6684 7 күн бұрын
@wisecampmotorcycles8258 I really had no choice in the matter. I was 8 yrs old, and my dad decided that is what we were going to do. We lived with my grandparents in Fullerton, Ca, for a few months until dad got a job in the printing trade here since that was what he did in Australia. But I do remember the train ride like it was yesterday. My brother and sister were always afraid to walk between the train cars. We had 2 sleeper compartments, mom and my sister and brother in one, and me and dad in another (I was the only one who could sleep through dads snoreing that close). We ate, showered, and slept on the train. I remember watching the roos hopping by as we traveled through the bush. I really have fond memories of that train ride. At the time 1975, that line was the world's longest stretch of straight track. I remember watching out the window as we pulled into the station, and I could see both ends of the train as we made the turn in. From Sydney, we flew to Hawaii (that's our port of entry). From Hawaii, we flew to LAX. It was a memorable trip.

Nearly 30 years ago, The National Railway Museum in York was a temporary host to a Chinese steam engine, and I was living in Lancashire, so I used my day off to travel the beautiful journey (by train, of course) to go see it. IIRC it was an 8' gauge! Whatever it was exactly, it was humongous! And black - all over. It was hard to see all the details. I have never felt so small next to a vehicle in my life, and I've been on large RORO ferries! 😂
