Mr. Douglas is indeed very proud. In fact, he had Megan play a tune on an album tribute to an old Dobro player. That album had many of the world's best Dobro players playing on it, including Rob Ickes.😁

Jerry made a tribute album to Tut Taylor. Megan played a cut on it. Jerry said people thought she might not be "up to the task", but he was impressed with how prepared she was and how she nailed the playing. High praise from the master.

This is incorrect. It is NOT Larkin Poe. It is the Lovell Sisters Band, the band Megan and Rebecca were in with their sister Jessica. They played Bluegrass. Larkin Poe was formed by Megan and Rebecca after TLSB broke up.
@Robert_Herring5 жыл бұрын
It is Larkin Poe, because 1)No Jessica, and 2)drumset. Very early in Larkin Poe. They were doing a whole gambit of stuff at the time

Do two-stroke I can no longer play the guitar nor am I going to retrain myself to do so. That would be kind of pointless because I expect another stroke. It's nice to be able to listen to other players though. I have nothing better to do with the time that I have left.

@@bryankeller3492 , I remember a quote from Taj Mahal: " Now, I could play this song just like Robert Johnson did in 1928, but what would be the point?". Theres a big difference being studying, absorbing and being influenced by the art forms of the past..... and becoming a slave to them.

Why is Dylan playing an electric guitar? Boo ! His career is over.
@margarethouse404 Жыл бұрын
@@goodun2974For better or worse , Bluegrass is probably the genre with the strictest gatekeeping . And necessary , because if not , it would quickly disappear , overrun by mainstream artists that happen to have one accoustic guitar in the band . But LP ( as LP ) never claimed to be Bluegrass . Labels can be fluid . At the time period of this video , they're firmly Americana .
@goodun2974 Жыл бұрын
@@margarethouse404 , "purity" is over-rated (and a slavish adherence to it can cause regression, in society and politics as well as in art). I personally prefer music made by artists that aren't afraid to blend, borrow or perhaps even steal from different genres and thereby create something new. New artistic movements are influenced by the past yet are also a rejection of it; ultimately, people are free to embrace, or reject, the change, but they ought to at least consider it with an open mind. It's worth noting that one of my all time favorite musicians, David Lindley, passed away last March. Born to parents who played classical piano but also listened to Indian classical music, he was drawn to the banjo at age 6 ("my hillbilly child", his mother called him), followed by bluegrass violin, becoming sufficiently proficient to win the Topanga Canyon banjo competition 5 times while still a teenager (they barred him from further competition and made him a judge). He played in a succession of bluegrass and folk bands (the Dry City Scat Band, the Mad Mountain Ramblers); then played psychedelic world music with the Kaleidoscope in the late 1960's; became a sought after session musician on guitar, violin, and lap steel with many of the cream of the crop songwriters and performers of Southern California in the 1970s (Browne, Ronstadt, etc); headed his own mutant reggae-rock jam band (ElRayo-X) in the 80's; then in the 90's he rejected the mainstream corporate music industry and pivoted to playing mostly-acoustic solo and duet shows, and live recordings: a mix of traditional folk and bluegrass tunes and covers of various semi-famous songwriters (Zevon, JJ Cale, Danny O'Keefe etc), often performed on the Oud, the Saz, or Weissenborn Hawaiian lap steel slide guitar (Lindley is almost single-handedly responsible for the renewed popularity of acoustic and electric lap steel guitar). He also traveled the world to play and record with indigenous musicians in Madagascar and Norway and elsewhere. Now that's my kind of guy! Restless, inventive, informed and grounded by the past, *but not bound to it*.
