Portuguese ... interesting. I traced my family to england and france, but a few of us have pacific islander? or native american? traits. Maybe, it's portuguese. There are a lot of folks down here who identify as Cajuns, but who are actually descendants of Portugese, Spanish, Italian, Colonial French, and German settlers. There is no shame in celebrating your actual heritage. While my father was a genuine Cajun descended from those who were expelled from Canada by the English, my mom was Scots-Irish. Imagine my surprise recently, when I learned by virtue of a DNA test, that I am, genetically speaking, only 9% Cajun. I actually have not only a smidge of Portugese blood, but also I'm 12% Italian! Boy our ancestors got around, eh?
@LouisianaDread
@LouisianaDread Жыл бұрын
At this point, what we know today as Cajuns are so far removed from their ancestral home and Acadian culture that they have developed their own unique culture and lifestyle. This would necessitate the intermarrying of people with African, native, and European lineage. I find it hard to believe that a DNA test would specifically say “you’re x% Cajun”. I’d like to take that test to find out more.
