My trick for talking to strangers at a LARP is that I roleplay that I am a much more confident person and that kind of tricks me into being able to talk to people, because my character would have no problem talking to anyone. It sounds weird but it works!

Yay, welcome! It can be quite nerve wracking when you get started, but everyone is really understanding because we've all been there. Empire is really good for new people, and everyone recommends for you to say "I'm new to Anvil" if you find something you don't understand or are unsure of (it's their code for "I'm a newbie and need some help"). I am currently planning to be there in September too in the Navaar camp so if you see me, please say hi. :)

I'm probably playing a Varushkan since I've heard it is a good nation for solo players

My trick is to approach people with an ice breaker about them! Something as simple as “have you done anything exciting today?” can work! Or compliment on a piece of kit - even better if you can work in an IC question, so you give them something to work off of!
