Makoto is one of my favorite characters in the game because I related a lot to her life at home with Sae. The main problem I had about her character was that she just immediately became friends with the Phantom Thieves because she got a cool motorcycle. If Atlus created a dynamic where Makoto slowly adjusts to having friends in her life and the Phantom Thieves gain her trust she would’ve been at least an A tier.

Futaba is P5's Maki/Mary where her metaverse "persona/personality" is her "self conceptualized ideal self deep down in her socially anxiety/crippled shell like the fake/idealized Maki you team up with in P1's main SEBEC route from the DEVA system. That whole route was basically Makis castle/metaverse when you think about it. 🤔

I honestly think the cast in Persona 5 have potential but it’s marred by poor pacing and writing. The first arc was proof of that as it dealt with serious and realistic issues with equally as written relatable and realistic characters. Ann and Ryuji start off interesting but they never stay that way. Ryuji just becomes the resident punching bag for the rest of the game while Ann is constantly sexualized which is just a slap in the face to her arc. I think one thing Persona 6 could take from the older persona games in terms of character arcs is having the characters constantly evolve throughout the story rather than them having a dungeon dedicated to them and them not growing or reflecting on their issues in my personal opinion. Also just having good and meaningful character moments like Digital Devil Saga.

I’d put Mishima at C and Yusuke at D. I think the plain writing of Makoto makes her more C tier than D, her student council president archetype is fine to me and she doesn’t have anything that bothers me about her character, just a lot of missed opportunities to make her have depth, so very average. Otherwise I completely agree with this list. Ann is B tier but she totally had the potential to be more if atlus didn’t superficially sexualize her constantly, like you said. Futaba is totally Trash especially because on paper this character had the potential to be S tier, on my first blind playthrough I was most intrigued by her when I saw her in the opening animation but then when I saw the actual way she was written in the game I basically would change every choice they made.

Technically from a gameplay perspective he took on 4 phantom thieves at once which is still pretty impressive considering by that point in the story, the main cast would have learned new powers by then.

@@Larrue Some character rankings don't make any sense at all. It seems like most you do is just skim what you think of the characters and never look into what the characters are about. Except the ones that are your favorites. It seems like you just dislike the main p5 cast which is your opinion I guess.

I think it's ok to disagree with my opinion or dad's opinion but acting like it's a joke or doesn't make sense because you don't like it is pretty insulting. I don't know what makes you think I didn't look into what the characters are about as I did every single confidant, and read the art books etc. I explained the reasoning behind basically every choice which is why the video is an hour long, if you skipped to the end then you won't know why.

@Aria Khalaji Ah yes, calling a character a plank of wood. Truley real criticism. Akechi is the best example of this in the video. They don't look at him for who he is or what brought him to do what he does, all they talk about is surface level things about the character during that entire segment. Is that character perfect? No the original p5 had pacing problems but I think the Akechi fight was perfectly timed and makes sense for him. A teenager, especially one that goes through such traumatic things does not have a rational view of the world unlike Adachi who has his views of the world. Akechi only has one goal and doesn't think beyond that because he can't accept anything else. That is just a brief dive into his character and you can do with pretty much the entire cast. Although I'll admit most characters improve a lot more in Royal along with their confidants.

Except Akechi is a surface level character. "My worldview is warped because of traumatic past" is a cliché and isn't explored in any depth in this game. It's nice if you like him but he doesn't do anything new and isn't particularly written well at all, being very very predictable. The sudden changes in his personality inn the story are contrived and aren't really character growth more like writers convenience. Don't have to agree but also don't have to insult my opinion.
