Means nothing. You could say that about virtually every team. "If only they were healthy at the right time." Magic got hurt in the '89 finals... shit happens.

Unfortunately for the Celtics this was the signature game that changed the momentum and control they had as defending champions that showed clearly that it wasnt 1986 anymore :( the Lakers were not going to have a repeat of 1986 when they started 29 and 2 before coasting and allowing the Rockets to creep up and bite them in 5 games. This was a game the Celtics had a 17 point lead in the 3rd. But this day belonged to Magic and swung the momentum back to the Lakers and the rest of 1987 the Celtics were getting beat up while showtime was just getting warmed up. It was a credit to the Celtics grit and determination that extended the Finals to 6 games in 87. While the Celtics were clearly better in 86 then the 62 win lakers. It was this game that was a true preview of what was to come in June of 87.

@@gffpau totally ! Especially losing a lead late in the game when Big Red could have provided valuable minutes. They just didn't have the depth that they needed in 87 :(

@Chris Paschal For real Chris my man !! We could go on for days about the " what ifs " if Len Bias didnt die !! Still breaks my heart :( I remember exactly where I was and that moment as a 12 year old getting ready to kick off summer vacation the Celtics just won their 16th title and Larry his 3rd straight MVP. All was right in the world. Then my buddy called me, told me the tragic news and the rest of the summer of 86 had a black cloud hanging over it. Cheers Chris !

Another great Celtics versus Lakers battle of the 80s. This is when the game of basketball was beautiful. The showtime Lakers! Magic and Kareem with such a strong cast of James Worthy, Michael Cooper and Byron Scott. They could run you off the floor without breaking a sweat. The awesome fundamental Bird teams of the 80s. Maybe the greatest passing team ever. The historical front line of Bird, McHale and Parish. With the late great DJ in the back court with the hardnose Danny Ainge. They definitely missed Bill Walton in this particular game and who knows where the Celtics could’ve gone with Lynn bias and Reggie Lewis. Still so fun to watch this kind of basketball. It was the best hands down.
