Well said and I agree. Bird looks like a coach more than a player on the court but he's just so smart. His basketball IQ may have been off the chart. I love the Celtics and the starting 5 for most of the 80's. And I know there are some that say the GOAT was Jordan or Lebron or someone. But the GOAT doesn't have to have the most rings (Bill Russel) or score the most points in a single game (Wilt) or perform the way no one had seen before (Michael Jordan) or even be as epic as DR J. For me the GOAT symbolizes the best fundamentals of the game. The one who was the ultimate team player. I'd say without bias or prejudice - it's Larry Joe Bird. No one comes close by this measurement. Okay Magic Johnson. But otherwise its Bird all the way.

Even before they realize it themselves. That's time in the game, instinct. That takes years of experience to learn. If you can. Birds passing is so beautiful, keep in mind this is a old Celtics team by 92 , the 86 Celtics are considered by most historians and experts as the best nba team ever , when you have bird/mcchale/Parrish on the frontline your gonna win titles . There’s a reason Larry bird is the only 3 mvp in a row winner , he just played the game the way it should be played

Idolized him during my bball days from 4th through 11th grade!The intangibles he would pull off in critical parts of a game were mezmerizing!! Was the greatest for me ever ,,how the rest of his teammates rose to the occasion when Bird stepped onto the court is something I probably will never see again!! I loved that guy so much and mimicked his game so ardently that what a coincidence that I had to undergoe not one but two dangerous spine surgeries that have left me with a permanent limp and for the time being unable to shoot a basketball!! But it was worth it ! I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat !! Larry Larry Larry larry!!!

Lifelong Cavs fan and I remember this entire series vividly. It was a classic. Game 1 the Cavs blew out Boston at the Richfield Coliseum, which included a half court buzzer beater by Steve Kerr for the Cavs! Game 2 Boston blew us out and tied the series. Game 3 in Boston went to the Celtics, and game 4 was an epic rebounding classic duel between Parish and Larry Nance. That was a nail biter of a game. Then game 5 back at the Coliseum we blew them out, and we thought we'd finish them off here in Game 6. But obviously the Celtics had one more last ditch effort. Because in game 7 in Richfield we blew them out again. This was the best playoff run we'd had in the franchise's history until we ended up losing to the Bulls and that #23 guy..... until we got our OWN #23.... had to wait another 24 years but we finally did it! ;)

Never had the chance to see this game. The Boston's HOFs (Bird, McHale, Parrish) must have had a drink at the Youth Fountain, Their game was just absolutely crazy good. But I could see Bird's having trouble with his body as he look stiff (his awkward shots and lay-ups became even more apparent awkward). I played like that when I did have a bad back when I was young. Len Bias was the bigger loss for the Celtics. He was drafted at a time when the Celtics badly needed to rebuild their roster for the future. His death left a massive hole. They've only one one NBA championship since - 2008.
@dsfddsgh5 жыл бұрын
@@AlonsoRules Yeah if he had lived not only do the Celtics probably win a couple of more championships but just think how Bias would have given Bird and McHale more rest with him backing them up. More rest means less minutes and both Bird and McHale probably play for at least a couple of more years and aren't crippled with injuries over the last few years of their careers.

Special days, I miss these Celtics a lot, they are forgotten compared to the 80s teams......such a shame the Celtics fell short of meeting the Bulls in 91 or 92. If they had been healthy they could have won it all. It would have been a legendary ECF on paper. This era to me was "Showtime Celtics" when they were playing good it was hustle on every play, always looking to fast break, and incredible diversity in passing, everyone making back cuts, they we so rich in offensive options at every spot on the floor. They never had a player anything like Reggie Lewis in the championship years. That Larry Bird behind the back to himself shot....just goosebumps. Those are the types of touches that NBA2K still hasn't quite gotten in there. This was a great Cleveland Cavaliers team too. What a likeable franchise they used to be

Jordan was great but No Bird. Huge UNC & MJ fan, but Bird was better in EVERY phase of the game except defense. Bird could have averaged 35-40 points every night but he didn't need to. He did it all, rebounding & GREAT passing. Please don't get me wrong, I love MJ, he is great. But in my era, Bird & Magic were the most complete players in the NBA. The NBA was fading into obscurity. Bird & Magic resurrected the league, cementing their legacy! MJ watched & learned their winning ways. Miss em all.

At the time of this video, 1992, there were only the 5 listed above. I based that comment from that time. Since then players you mentioned have added their names to that list. All of those me were great players. I miss the NBA of the 80s and 90s. The play was more team oriented.

Larry Legend was simply picking them apart. When you can stand in the back court with the ball not moving and waiting for the very instant someone barely gets open and can thread the needle shows confidence, which was something Larry Bird excelled at. Not matter how far down they were, he would NEVER lose confidence.
