I had TICKETS to Larry's retirement concert tour and COULDN'T GO! I'm STILL so disappointed. He has meant so much to me as a musician and I considered myself to be so blessed to get the opportunity to go and see him live. I keep hoping one day he'll give it one more go-around and come somewhere near. Because come hell or high water I will NOT miss it.

So musical, so in tune, so melodic and so tasty. Larry with his marvelous ¨money notes¨ is always a source of joy and inspiration.

Carlton is the motherlode! He is THE SOURCE! I grew up copying the guitarists who copied Larry. Only later in life has it *really* dawned on me just how much "my own" phrasing actually owes to this man. ❤

I saw this tour live, the 1991 version with the same band and almost the same songs. It was among the most enjoyable times I’ve ever seen Larry play, which is saying something- i’ve been fortunate to see him 20+ times since 1979 and he’s Always great Larry was really going for it on Smiles on this tour, the best I’ve ever heard him play it. Just wow. Thanks much for posting this.

Yes you can see he's really into it, but then he always seems to love playing live.

I love Larry's playing. Little known fact: He and Ronald MacDonald shop at the same clothes outlets.

This is a gold era for Larry's playing. Interesting that whathever kind of guitar he plays it is always Carlton sound. Who's best of him ?
I am intrigued by the choice of guitar. I usually associate Larry with the Gibson ES-335 (didn't he do an album named "Room 335"?). I believe Gibson even has a "signature" model of said axe. A flat top Les Paul with P-90s doesn't seem like the kind of guitar that would serve his brand of music. But damn, this sounds SO good... and brings me back to my years in San Diego in the mid 1980s.... where, by the way, I would see Hollis Gentry playing with Fattburger!

This was about a year after he was shot in the throat with a 357, recovered from being paralyzed, and recovered from opioid addiction caused by his injuries. So I imagine it was a stressful year that may have had a toll on his physical appearance.
