I don't agree with a number of things said in this interview on both sides.

The best way forward, is not to put down whole eras of Catholic thought and culture, but to incorporate, represent, and instantiate the best and greatest of all in all eras, into our unfolding present. I don't think Ramage, or even Chapp, would wholly disagree with that.

Pope Benedict XVI is a also Liturgist that's why he's aware of the importance of the TLM...and with all due respect to Professor Larry Chapp.....I sense a little less esteem for the Liturgy in your comments..but that's just me.

You said ´rad trads’ are newly empowered? Did you misspeak and mean to say DISempowered? Either way, referring to people as ‘rad trads’ is a very unconvincing way to counter their arguments. The complaints of the new mass are not that they are irreverent (although World Youth Day has shown the world that the majority of them are). I go to a NO parish and it is not irreverent. The problem is that it is very Protestant as everything else since V2. The new mass obscures the sacrificial nature of the mass and emphasizes it as a shared meal.

I'm not a trad/radtrad (I fall more into Dr. Chapp's camp if anything) but I am sympathetic to them, and still am trying to wrap my brain around the point of Traditiones Custodes.

@@newglof9558 Same. I am sympathetic with the Communio theology and find only having Thomism stagnant and restrictive. Although I do think we need to return to Aristotelian physics and away from Newtonian physics. The question I have is what are the theological underpinnings of the Nouvelle Theologie that results in Protestantism?

I would say that to characterize the N.O. itself as “protestant” seems like a categorical error to me. Maybe saying it has elements that partially resemble protestantism would be better. Anything that comes from a council of the Catholic Church should be characterized as Catholic IMO. I know it may seem like semantics, but I think that the distinction is important. The Novus Ordo seems to be a good representation of the Last Supper at the table with Jesus and the disciples, and I don’t think that takes away the sacrificial nature of the Mass. Also, when “RadTrad” is used, I don’t think they are describing people like you. You are open to the post-conciliar church and some of its theology. I think the term “RadTrad” more refers to the people that borderline (or explicitly) reject it and see the post-conciliar church as a terrible mistake at best, or demonic at worst. I could be wrong, but these are just some of my thoughts.
