I love this version of LJ. He was playing like his All-Star self in a Knicks uniform. This 1996-97 Knick team was stacked!!! A damn shame we had that brawl with Miami that cost us a berth in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bulls were waiting.....

LJ was one of my favorite players so I was very excited when he became a Knick. And 96-97 was the only season he played like his old self. After that season, his back limited his athleticism, and he was never the same player.

the 1997 playoff statistics for larry johnson as a knick were lower than they were in the 1993 and 1995 playoffs when he was a hornet

@@youtuber3328 he did have to share the ball with Ewing & starks he wasn’t the go to guy , glen rice was a one man band who took all the shots eventually his numbers went down after 98 and he became a role player for Kobe, shaq and isiah rider

@@andresdelportillo9917 you make sense and john starks lost his starting position to allan houston while glen rice probably didn't attempt as many shots as patrick ewing and/or alonzo mourning

This was by far Ewing's most talented team, with Oakley, Allan Houston, and still healthy LJ. Plus, Starks came off the bench as a 6th man which was his perfect role with the Knicks. Starks should have never been a second option on offense, he was too inconsistent. Too bad by the 96 season, Ewing was past his prime. Otherwise, with prime Ewing with this squad, Knicks has a legit shot at beating the Bulls.

Long time Knicks fan and I still believe this was the best Knicks team of the 90s. Better then the 93-94 teams. Ewing was still very good if maybe not at his peak but they finally had legit secondary scoring options with Houston and LJ. Both were capable of getting their own shot, something the Knicks never had prior to this in Ewing's run. They didnt always have to resort to the Ewing post game or working a Starks/Ewing pick and roll as they did in 93 thru 96. So you had a better offense but still had that tough defensive mentality there. Starks was a phenomenal sixth man. Childs/Ward was a stellar PG duo. 57 wins, smoked Charlotte, would have for sure won in 6 over Miami if the brawl doesnt happen. I think they take the Bulls to 7. I won't say they definitely win a Game 7 in Chicago against MJ, but I do believe they had a shot. This was their chance and the suspensions took it away. The next year LJ's back really took away alot of his game minus spot up shooting, Ewing broke his wrist and was never the same again. Yes they made the Finals in 99 with Sprewell/Houston but Ewing was washed at that point and they never had a shot against the Spurs.

i did do and/or PROBABLY will rank these knicks playoff teams in this EXACT order #1 1993 #2 1994 #3 1999 #4 2000 #5 1992 and #6 1996 to sum up the best nba teams as a whole that had the elite and then post elite versions of patrick ewing
