Larry is being way too generous here. If you go and watch the interview he never says that Seinfeld was cancelled. He says “You gave it up, right? They didn’t cancel you. You cancelled them.” Then Jerry threw a fit.

itsumonihon ew I really don't like people like you who misuse words like "humble" in situations where they don't apply. Larry wasn't wrong for asking Jerry that question, Jerry was just too arrogant and up his own behind to just answer the simple question and say that he was the one who ended the show. Instead Jerry was all like "WOAH MAN CANCEL ME? ME??! THE GREAT JERRY SEINFIELD?! MY SHOWS DON'T GO DOWN, THEY DON'T GET CANCELLED! DO YOU KNOW WHO i IS?!!" Both you and Jerry can drink a tall glass of shut the heck up. Larry did ask, so your show was cancelled? That was dead wrong because it wasn't cancelled, it was a mistake of a question, it was insulting to his guest, it showed he was unprepared, and Larry deserved to be made to look the clown and unprofessional fool. Larry King has always taken the "Socratic" approach in his interviews, not preparing and asking simple questions. The point is that he is a populous interviewer, and he asks questions that the average uninformed person might ask. That is, and always has been, his style. What is impressive is that he manages to also work up to very incisive and revealing questions with that approach too. I think he is just good at making people comfortable.

basquat76 He doesn't have to memorize their life story. He has topic points for his interview, memorize those. Read the 10-20 pages of bio info on the guest, memorize talking points, and probably other items will stick, specially if it's something you do every day. It's an easy job as far as that goes since all he is doing is asking the questions, and guiding the interview.

Wouldn't want the guest to think that though, would we?

Nope, like he says...he should've known that, an interviewer needs to do a little background check on the guest, it was a stupid question to ask. Seinfeld terminating his show was a super big deal at the time, everybody was begging him to reconsider, ppl were throwing money at him, it was in the news etc. heck even now ppl are begging him to do it again...so I think Seinfeld was positively stupefied when Larry asked him if he was cancelled and responded w/ his usual sarcastic humor.

@alizafar5072
@alizafar5072 9 жыл бұрын
***** ninearthify Maybe I can put it into terms you might be able to mentally digest. If you made the winning touchdown at the Superbowl and become MVP and some ass-clown who should know better, like an ESPN reporter asks you "You guys defeated the other team? The other team didn't just let you win...but, in fact you won the Superbowl? You didn't get the ball tossed to you by the other team intentionally, but you actually intercepted it? They didn't go after you, when they handed the ball to you so you would be able to make that winning touchdown...but you actually intercepted it and scored?" That's not even nearly as bad as what Larry did to Jerry though...not even half as bad. One of the main reasons why someone would intentionally leave a show like Jerry did, is to anchor it's level of success, and to make it clear...establishing it's reputation as being number one when it ended. He was offered 3.8 million per episode for another season, he turned it down. So for someone like Larry to come and be oblivious to whether he ended it or whether it was cancelled, pretty much discounts Jerry's entire motive for ending the show when he did.
@kinglink9541
@kinglink9541 9 жыл бұрын
ali z False equivalence. He doesn't have to know every little detail about Seinfeld to interview him. Larry's explanation makes no sense. He didn't ASK Jerry if he was canceled, he was clearly segwaying into letting Jerry boast about going out on his own terms. This is weird because he let Seinfeld shame him into pathetically demeaning himself. Grow a pair Larry!!!

the question was essentially "you decided to take the show off the air and the network didnt cancel you, right?" and then seinfeld gets butthurt about it. thats what happened

Seinfeld picked up on it immediately too ... Larry King just admitted that in his mind , as he asked the question, he thought they were canceled . Seinfeld did not misread or over react which some claimed at the time .

I like Seinfeld alot, but I thought he overreacted on Larry King, when Larry didn't know that he took his show off the air. Anyways, so what if the network had finally cancelled it or if he himself ended the show? It's not that big a deal.

Jerry was probably so proud of the fact that he ended it himself and had talked about it so much that he thought Larry King would have heard it already. He thought everyone knew it already. And while Larry King can eat a slice of humble pie here and admit he could have done a little research beforehand, that’s not how he did his show and there’s no reason for him to have had to pander for Jerry Seinfeld like he was any different from his normal guests. Seinfeld couldn’t believe the question was asked though, and he got more upset the longer it went on for because he realized that Larry really didn’t know about the whole thing. Jerry’s ego had him thinking he was “on top” at the time, as he says in the clip, and he couldn’t handle someone not treating him that way. But since Bee Movie… I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything. Seinfeld really was the peak of his career, and it’s been downhill from then. Not surprising, because it sounds like his ego would be tough to work with.

I agree with Larry, Seinfeild is easily a top contender for best show ever on TV in history. And when it was running back in the 90's, no Question it was the best show on T.V.What even came close? Martin? Family Matters? Step by Step? Nothing Touched it in it's heyday. If Seinfeild were to come out today, id almost bet my right arm it would be on either HBO or Showtime.

If you actually watch Seinfeld, you would be able to tell that Jerry was answering as he would if he was his own character in his show. I though it was great. it was like a new episode of Jerry. The issue is that Larry king had now idea he was doing that.

The really funny thing is that jerry got mad that Larry didn’t know he needed it. It doesn’t seem like a thing he would take as such a personal insult. His need for people to know that he ended it instead of nbc ending it is like George needing to get credit for the big salad.

Seinfeld was a great collaborator and a good idea guy. Not much of a stand-up comedian, tbh. The truth is that mistake or not, Seinfeld's reaction simply wasn't justified. He made an ass of himself, and should acknowledge that. If Larry King could take responsbility for a more minor mistake, Seinfeld can do the same.

+Sandy Jones It depends on the interview you want to give. Larry King had this discussion with James Lipton, the host of "The Actor's Studio." James Lipton wants to know everything but King preferred to not know anything to allow for surprises. I'm not that bothered. It made for an entertaining minute. Seinfeld later said that portion of the interview gave him such great publicity.
