This station rescued me from the music in Mississippi radio stations in the 70s. After 10 pm at night with a lot of clothes hangers and tinfoil I could pick up this station. I discovered Yes, King Crimson, KISS, Pink Floyd etc via WLS and the King Biscuit Flower Hour here. I remember an interview with Rick Wakeman prompting me to learn and play keyboards even up to this day. Awesome memories..

I lost track of old WLS for a period so I may not have HEARD any of the broadcasts from the fall of '77. I listened on the school bus so during summer I didn't listen 'cause my mom kept our radio on WGN. then I started a new school in the fall of '77 and didn't ride the bus (my mom took me). So about January of 1978 I decided one night I was gonna start listening to WLS on my mom's brand new stereo that she'd just gotten for Christmas! and I was attached to the speaker ever since!

In the first set of commercials the voice coming in in the middle of the Soft and Dry jingle is none other than Dan Ingram, who at the time did afternoon drive on WABC, New York. He and Uncle Lar were two of the best!

I wonder why the ad agency thought it would sound good for a male voice to come in out of the blue and say Soft and Dri doesn't sting most girls even after shaving. (Its a girls deodorant but men like it too.?) I don't see how Dan kept a straight face saying that.

Talk about memories, back when radio was fun. Jingles, live reads, news with teletype sound effects, quarter hour maintenance, and even some real live weather. Oh yea, even a song or two. Fun listen, WLS was part of the reason I got into broadcasting. Funny I don't remember WLS having so much reverb in their signal.

They sure did during the John Gehron era…I’m surprised they had none in the late 60s and early 70s. I think the reverb started around 73 or 74…the audio processing was always great on WLS.

Great sounding aircheck! Now, I wished we could say Larry Lujack in 2020! He was the best Disc Jockey in the Nation, in my opinion. Mancow now has mornings on 89 WLS. I like Mancow, Mancow is great and a fan of him, I listen to Mancow on The Loop, but he will never beat "SuperJock". In 2021-2022, Larry Lujack "SuperJock", is The President of the United States🇺🇲, not Joe Biden!
