I love that it goes into the fact that he spent the past 3,000 years being a different museums around the world, including Oxford College. Where he was able to learn history (and English and other languages) and understand the changes through time. Where else his parents were found till later in life and they never we able to come alive without the tablet, so they never learned about the change in time (or atleast they never tried to). And yes, it also shows him as a teenage just being done with his parents.

I especially love how the Night at the Museum movies add in tidbits of facts about the actual reality behind some of these exhibits, while also recognizing that they aren’t viewing the world the way we view it today. Like how Roosevelt’s signature quote goes “... the key to true happiness is... good exercise...”. In this case, as Ra’s parent’s are bragging about owning 40,000 Jews, Ra is rolling his eyes in the background and everyone is just standing there like ‘that’s just not okay though’.

Especially when you consider that Jed and Octavius were “born” in times when slavery and racism were still in heavy practice. Octavius was a Roman emperor and Jed led a mission during Manifest Destiny which was what? 1830, maybe earlier? Obviously they became more enlightened after learning more about the 21st century, but still...

that “here we go…” is such a relatable thing tho, my dad is a “Fifty year old White Guy who thinks that anyone who isn’t a White CisHet Male is below him” and he’ll start talking about something bad about a minority (it’s worse when he’s unknowingly demeaning me when he’s talking bad about gay people) and i feel that “here we go…”
@TimberlakeTigerGirl2 жыл бұрын
I feel the same with my dad; I'm not sure if I should call him racist or just ignorant. On the one hand, he was disgusted with George Floyd's murder and he does say there is a certain amount of racial inequality in the US. On the other hand, he thinks that multiculturalism is a mistake and that 'God separated the races for a reason'. He always harps back to how Rome fell because they conquered too many cultures, tried to merge them into one, and it backfired. And he thinks that's how the US will fall: from within because of multiculturalism. He's the kind of guy who believes in segregation yet doesn't believe in white supremacy.
