Fun facts for Larry’s viewership; the real reason the USA does not use the metric system is due to the British. When shipping the weights to show to congress and introduce the metric system, the shipment was attacked and captured by a British ship, thus preventing the US’s attempt to switch to the metric system

This is technically not true while the ship that had the metric system weights did get lost at sea Ben Franklin had already pushed the metric system to congress and it had been rejected the US didn’t want Frances new measurement system when they one they had was already standard in the new United States and I would be far too much effort to try and switch all the standard measurements into metric from imperial

Adding onto my point Ben Franklin ordered the weights from France in order to try and convince congress it would be good to switch but if you know anything about our early government they were not a fan of adopting almost anything new so the chances that congress would change their minds is nearly nonexistent regardless of if the weights made it stateside or not .
