The scary part is that you are just getting introduced to Geoff. He has outstanding solo work from Ghost Riders in the Sky, to Monster Mssh to Hobbit songs. His range and arrangment, and video work never ceases to amaze. And yes, he did get his start in entertainment working in theme parks.. I believe both Universal and Disney.

Geoff is the King of Halloween. The weird little ghost is Jack’s ghost dog, Zero, from The Nightmare Before Christmas. If you want to experience his crazy big range, I’d recommend Ain’t No Sunshine, Blackbird, or Ghost Riders in the Sky. Also, his God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is a Christmas favorite not to be missed. Enjoy your ride down the rabbithole!

This is the second cover he's made without showing himself singing the harmony. Usually he records multiple video copies of himself, as you saw in that last screenshot of Over the Misty Mountain Cold and Ghostriders in the Sky. He can sing those changes live, but you won't see them in his covers. He's recorded several shorts, some with and some without production. Thanx for hopping on this one. I don't think he hit a B0 in this one, but he did in Valhalla Calling. The highest note in this one was a C5, so his range is octaves, but he said recently that it's not something he can do at the drop of a hat. In the studio, yes, cause he can try it as many times as he needs to. If you are compiling your Christmas list, be sur that his God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is on it. Trust me.

@@sharonleath6384another less theatrical (but still very well acted, especially Cesar, the curly haired baritenor) is their cover of I Can’t Make You Love Me, as well as True Colors, Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, and Bridge Over Troubled Waters.

His vocal control is seamless from tenor to bass. That's why he's truly remarkable. Plus his re-interpretation of vocal arrangement is always spot on.

It's that and the fact he can do a chest-connected C5 belt... that's even rare for a typical baritone... let alone someone who is a natural bass.

You got Geoff's name correct :) If you like Haunted Mansion, I would recommend Voiceplay's version of Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZyxZWyhaaqnipY they are costumed as Haunted Mansion characters to do that one. Also, the ghosts in particular, Grim Grinning Ghosts is at kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGa3io1ufNaNmLc (seven years ago!) And yes, Geoff's solo stuff is basically not a capella. People usually claim Geoff has 5 octaves of range (roughly A0 to A5), though in interview he pointed out that reaching a note is different than comfortably singing a tune in that range, and he felt more comfortable claiming 4 and a fraction octaves of useful melody.

According to Peter Barber's analysis of this song, Geoff ranges from E1 (subharmonic) to C5 (tenor high C), with the final note being a chest F1. While this isn't Geoff's lowest and highest notes he's done in videos, it's still an impressive range for a single song. Geoff has earned the nickname "Mr. G1" from at least 1 reactor, and that note seems to be pretty accessible to him these days, with (as here) sometimes F#1 and even F1 on occasion. In one of VoicePlay's minis, he hit A5, and he's hit A0 subharmonics a couple of times, so he really does have a 5 octave range.

How does he do it? He's been singing continuously since high school, and he and Layne Stein (the beatboxer) founded VoicePlay back in 1997 (when they were called 4-2-Five). So the answer is: Practice, Practice, Practice! ... Also, you need to watch _The Nightmare Before Christmas_ - a classic cult movie that this song is from. Another Disney Musical (with Tim Burton). The little ghost dog is a character in the movie.

Geoff does include instruments on his solo channel; it is one way to differentiate what he does as a solo artist from his work with VoicePlay. Not everything that VP or Geoff put out is theatrical, but very many are. I agree with the comment below about Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) and Grim Grinning Ghosts; you will especially appreciate them as a Haunted Mansion fan!

Great reaction- thanks! Yes, you are right- Geoff has an amazing 5 octave voice range (the harmonizing background vocals are all him too and he has been playing piano since he was 5 years old). Geoff and Voice Play take Halloween very seriously as it is their favorite holiday. Geoff and his wife, Kathy, both worked at Universal theme park at the "Beetlejuice Rock And Roll Grave Yard Review" as Frankenstein and his bride (some of the other Voice Play members worked that attraction as well and the annual month long "Halloween Horror Nights"). If you like Disney's Haunted Mansion, you would enjoy Voice Play's cover of "Ding Dong/Hide And Seek". For the singing heads you mentioned, try Geoff's "Headless Horseman" on his solo channel or "Grim Grinning Ghosts" from Voice Play. I know you enjoyed J None's rapping in "Valhalla Calling" so I think you would love Voice Play's "Superstition" and don't forget to check out Home Free and Voice Play together in "Survivor- Zombies Vs Hillbillies".

Geoff is extremely talented in everything he does. He uses instruments in his videos. The background vocals are all him. Usually they're in the videos with him. This is the second time he hasn't. Each has their own name and personality.... Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl. The first 3 started as a little dis to the misspelling and mispronunciation of his name in "Way Down" when he played as janitors and a supervisor. He added Daryl in "Ghost Riders In The Sky". Last year's Halloween video. Now all their names are permanent. If you watch him in any of his videos he and his other selves kinda interact with each other.

I believe he does have a five octave range (if it's six, someone please correct me). He usually has three or four green screened "clones" in his solo videos singing all the different parts. Lots of fun and a treat for the ears as well. Throw a dart at the list of titles; you can't pick a bad one.

Geoff is an amazing vocalist. As you delve into more of his work, you'll be blown away by his... honestly inhuman range. The guy has a good five octaves under his belt. He's also got a technique called subharmonics, which is just... insane. In many of his videos, he'll actually layer himself in multiple times, covering the other vocal parts. You're really going to love exploring his works. Also... funny that you mention Haunted Mansion... ages ago, at this point, VoicePlay did a cover of Grim Grinning Ghosts... the song from The Haunted Mansion...

Geoff has said he owes inspiration to Disney vocalist Thurl Ravenscroft, who was later known as the voice of Tony the Tiger. Geoff's video performances "The Headless Horseman" and "Grim Grinning Ghosts" are based on Ravenscroft. Btw, it's "no-treh dahm" for the Paris cathedral and "no-ter dame" for the U.S. university and football team.

If you click on the description and go all the way to the bottom, he always credits everyone else does VoicePlay. In most of his earlier videos they used a stationary camera and Cathy was his only crew unless elaborate make up was involved. To see his range for each of the registers gets to shine, I would recommend I See Fire from Desolation of Smaug. He once again play the four dwarves that he did in Misty Mountains. But each of the dwarves get to sing for a bit and he sings in that range for a fairly long time. I added links to the most commonly recommended songs, but I don’t know if you read the replies to comments so am adding them here as well. •DingDong/Hide and Seek kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZyxZWyhaaqnipYsi=oEdgbXJ3O3zl1MeF •Grim Grinning Ghosts kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGa3io1ufNaNmLcsi=C6ytI3fpTDM2gxTL •Also Grim Grinning Ghosts while they were backstage between sets which was performed live kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKHaYayHpduVlcUsi=c4AIByt1p6lPp8-M

Funny you should mention Haunted Mansion. They've done songs from Haunted Mansion and they're all amazing. In addition, for Haunted Mansion and a lot of other Disney properties back in the day, they heavily used the talents of Basso Proffundo Thurl Ravenscroft. And take a guess as to who Geoff has said he idolizes as one of the most influential bass performers to him? You can definitely hear that Thurl Ravenscroft quality when he darkens his voice, in singing or speaking. On his solo channel, he's got a few videos of him just doing some voice acting reading and it's phenomenal! I could listen to that voice ALLLLLL day. On a side note, Thurl Ravenscroft is such a freaking cool name.

They are nicknamed as the "theater kids" of acapella. Lol, and yes. Geoff has about a 5 octave range. I think some of the other reactors have said that he hit a C5 in this cover. B0 Subharmonic (Valhalla Calling, Halo Theme) are his lows, I think he hit an F1 in chest in Folsom Prison Blues - C5 Chest Belt (in this, and I think also in Voiceplay's "Queen In Five Minutes" Mashup). I think in one of his "how I sing low" videos he squeaks out an E5 or F5 in falsetto momentarily. Regardless, you can definitely call him a five octave singer.

As best I know, his range is F1 to C5 without using any voice "alteration" techniques. Toss in his subharmonics, he extends down to B0 (on occasion, though he admits this is inconsistent). So yeah, 5 octaves and a bit is his true range. Something you hear only with the most talented (and hard working) vocalists out there, like Dimash or the late Whitney Houston, or (I hate to admit) Mariah Carey...among others. Someday, someone with connections to Broadway is going to "discover" Geoff, and he's going to have a big decision to make.

Agreed, I would put Geoff's chest range as F1-C5... but head voice counts, too, which extends up to F5(ish), so 4 octaves with just a natural voice... that's very rare. Mode 0 voice (chest-fry) is something that Geoff isn't that good at, which would extend his range even lower, since many people feel that counts as part of our range, too. Geoff is a master at what I would call Mode 0.5 voice; it's almost like a supported fry on his lowest chest notes but isn't into full fry.

Welcome to the rabbithole! Yes, Geoff does have an amazing range for a bass, although he doesn't consider himself a 'true' bass! Others have mentioned some other 'spooky' stuff from him, I would include 'Monster Mash' as it's such fun! The 'ghost' dog is Zero, from the film - you saw him being 'animated' by Geoff's wife Kathy, in their kitchen! Both Geoff and VP are unusual in that they do almost everything themselves, from arranging, producing, filming and editing - they will bring in additional expertise when needed, like the amazing talents of Rick Underwood for makeup/prosthetics, and additional camera operators, with the genius of Ed Boyer doing the final audio mix (as he does for VP, Home Free and many others) The beatboxer of VP, Layne Stein, is the co-owner of PattyCake Productions (along with Tony Wakim, ex-VP baritone), where a lot of their videos are made - although a large part of this set came from Geoff & Kathy's yard! The credits on the originals will always tell you who does what - enjoy your voyage of discovery!

Not every song is gonna have meaning. This is just a song with dope ass lines. If There’s any message, it’s: Look at all the dumb stuff I do. U don’t want me as a role model

I suppose you get a 'pass' for not knowing Geoff. 😊 I've seen many of your reactions. You're good! As to Geoff's range, he can sing IN 6 octaves... 0-5. If you count from 0, it's 5 octaves (from 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5). There are several 'articles' online that are outdated. They give hi lowest as D1 or C1. He hits B0 in a couple pieces. I'm not aware of him singing lower than B0 but maybe I just haven't heard it. He can also sing in the 5th octave (I'm not sure of his highest note). Geoff is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing musical geniuses of our time. He sings, plays multiple instruments, he arranges, he works with his wife on set design and construction. There are a very few "lower" basses out there, but most don't have his quality of tone when that low. Geoff has some excellent solo (well the "Geoff Choir" where he does multiple tracks) videos. You should check ANY or all of them! Obviously, VoicePlay is incredible. Right there with Pentatonix and Home Free.

Nightmare before Christmas was produced by Tim Burton, not Disney, and the score was done by Danny Elfman...again NOT Disney.

You must really like Eminem. If you want to do some epic mid 70’s masterpieces do Woman by Legs Diamond, Touch The Wind by Teaze, and Post Toastee by Tommy Bolin. Tommy was a guitar prodigy from Sioux City, Iowa. How good was he? He was in Zephyr in 1973. He also played on Billy Cobham’s debut jazz fusion album Spectrum from 1973 along with Jan Hammer on keyboards. Then in 1973 took over for Joe Walsh when he left James Gang to be with Eagles. Then in 1975 he took over for Richie Blackmore when he left Deep Purple. In ‘75 he released his first solo album Teaser. In ‘76 he released his second solo album Private Eyes. In 1976 while touring with Deep Purple on the Come Taste The Band tour he died from a drug overdose on December 4, 1976 at only 25 years of age. A huge loss to the music world. His song Post Toastee is about NOT letting “your mind Post Toastee”, i.e., die or destroy your life from drugs.
