This is a traditional holiday song. We used to sing it at Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I think of it as both. Their rendition is far different than what i grew up with, but I love it all the same.

Pentatonix's first Christmas EP in 2012 was a hit, thanks to their creative arrangements of songs that people can get a bit tired of during the holidays. They have put out a holiday album every year since then (though some years it was a deluxe version of the previous year's with some extra tracks). And during the holidays ALL of those albums are on the top 100 downloaded albums. I know people who love Pentatonix and only know them from the Christmas albums. Not sure if they get any radio play though.

FYI: The poem the song is based on, and the original lyrics of the song, are about THANKSGIVING, not Christmas. But change one word in the lyrics (literally, "Thanksgiving" to "Christmas") and suddenly you've got a Christmas song. PTX didn't originate the new version of the song (it was done long before them), but they used it to include the song on their Evergreen Christmas album.

It does have a Celtic feel to it. Really different feel to it compared to the original. It definitely got the PTX twists and treatment. The perfect song if your grandmother is a former pirate who lives deep in an old forest.

In the KZbin video “Recording of Evergreen” (which is a behind the scene view of Pentatonix recording the album in a 2 week period). This is one of the songs that you see them creating some of the background vocals. It is really interesting to see how they create their sound.

Going to see Lindsey Stirling for my third time next month. One of the best live performers I’ve ever seen, I say live because she’s very adamant that while the videos are obviously using the studio tracks, her concerts are 100% her playing live.

And its amazing how Kevin can beatbox and play cello at the same time. You should listen to one of his original called Renegade. Its amazing.
