I heard somewhere that Ryan improvised "reviving" the bear. This movie is a hidden gem. So good! One of Ryan's best! :)

This scene always felt like such an improvised Brando/Dean or Clift moment. These were Ryan Goslings best years. His early days of intense method acting, improvisation, weird acting tics and brilliant subtlety and scene stealing over the top attention to detail. His performance in this film Lars, Half Nelson, and Fracture were genius displays of acting ability right up there with the stuff Marlon Brando in his peak would do or Montgomery Clift and James Dean. He should have gotten an Oscar nomination for Lars and the real girl. This was arguably his best acting performance

I saw this movie at the theater bc I liked him as an actor and I thought he was cute. He was good in Half Nelson as a crack addict too. I also like Kelli Garner. She played Marilyn Monroe in The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe. She was really good.

Did we watch the same movie? The entire town completely goes along with it because they care about Lars. The only person who is hesitant about it is his brother and even he does a complete 180.

His behavior is clearly not normal, so let’s not pretend that it is. Having an attachment to a stuffed animal is quite different than having a delusion that a life size doll is alive and serving as a life partner. No one had a relationship with Bianca. They had relationships with Lars. No one treated Lars any way other than as a human being. No one treated him bad or treated him like he was crazy. I’m wondering what movie you watched.

I remember when I first saw the trailer I thought this movie would never work. I was so wrong. Despite the odd premise this movie has so much emotion and feeling. Ryan and Kelli, plus the whole cast do an amazing job. I really love this movie.
