For the gate position, check if your current gate controller has some kind of light that turns on when opened or some other function that indicates open or closed and connect the input of the Shelly switch to it. Remember to set it as “Detached Switch”. In my set up my gate motor turns on a light when it’s open, so I connected the Shelly to it and it acts as my gate position to know if it’s open or closed. Works great.

Siren doesn't need to be a siren. You could have a light or strobe that turns on when triggered by the Siren/AUX connection as well. You could even have it alert via an electronic switch (like another Shelley) to Home Assistant. I believe the Siren (AUX connection) is just a relay and could be used to trigger many things. The two adaptors (TX / RX) are a 2 Wire to PoE extender kit, so exactly what you thought. Allows PoE to travel down existing 2 wire systems in case of retrofitting a system that previously just used the two wire system. Some old intercoms may use this type of system.

The RX and TX boxes are for sending data over two wires. Meaning that if you didn't have a CAT6 cable to the intercom, you could have used some other pair of wires instead. Apparently you send POE power to the POE in end and it powers both ends. They really didn't make it clear what those pair of devices do. From the installation documentation it is intended to get the data from your house, in this case, out to the HUB using just a cable with two wires. Note that if it does provide POE power to downstream devices, it apparently is not enough to power the HUB.
@LarsKlintTech7 күн бұрын
Yes, I kinda figured that out, but couldn't explain it properly I think. Thanks for clarifying. It makes sense if you have the Hub and network somewhere else, and then you don't have to drag CAT6, but can use existing wiring, or simpler wires.

Really interested when you add the license plate recognition. Do you know if this will operate local on the network - the AI camera notifying the gate controller? My gate is also a long way from my house but I do have power and a 10Mbit network connection. This is enough to run 2 2k UniFi cameras (inside and outside gate). If I install a UniFi gate controller this will be located at my gate, so I’ll have a local switch at the gate with cameras and the gate controller connected - and then the 10Mbit connection from this back to my house where everything else is, including the NVR, Unify network, etc. I hope to be able to have a unifi gate controller and an AI camera so I can do automated license plate opening - just concerned about this running over a 10Mbit connection
@LarsKlintTech5 күн бұрын
It is one of the videos I plan on doing soon, so I will find out. I think it all runs locally, at least the HA parts. 10Mbit is quite low, is that due to the distance? If so, you can get Ethernet range extenders from Unifi too.
@jamieosh7018 сағат бұрын
@ yes it’s 320m or so. I have 2 cat6 cables on that run but only use one of them over which I run a VDSL2 connection, this just uses 2 wires of the cat6 cable and gives 10Mbit. It has worked well but I have not looked into anything that could give me more bandwidth. Would love it if there were.
