Exactly why I've always loved the mirage, I didn't start going to Vegas until mid 90s The mirage was the first place I ever stayed in Vegas. The front entrance hiding behind the volcano and the whole water features around the whole entrance... I still like going to Vegas now and then but not like I used to it's not the same.

I lived and worked in Vegas the 60's. What an incredible town. It was fascinating because it's a night time city. You get invited to parties after 1:am. That's when most people living there are just getting off their jobs. Almost everyone works in a casinos or restaurants from 5:pm to 1:am. I saw more movie stars in person than I could've ever dreamed of.

The first time I went there was 1984. My brother and me did a western US tour in my dads 78 olds. We stayed at the imperial 300 motel on the strip. I lost $20 bucks in the circus circus on a slot machine. That was all the money I had. Later that day, a monsoon moved through and cars were floating down the street. We left the next day and I didn’t return for about ten years.

Thank you for this excellent video. It's so depressing to see what the banks have done to Las Vegas. They have erased the technically unsurpassed engineering of the glittering signs that used to grace the strip and replaced it with big screen garbage. They even took down the old Treasure Island pirate that was awesome and replaced it with the extremely stupid TI sign. If someone ever gets the idea to bring back the old Vegas, with all the great signs, it will blow the competition out of the water. People would flood the strip to see the splendor that used to be the legendary Las Vegas.

Yes, I believe you're right about the track name. I used software called SmartSound which could slice up the tracks and arrange them as necessary to match the duration of the video. Unfortunately, the version of SmartSound that I owned would not work on a Windows 10 64-bit OS and I never upgraded. These days I prefer to do original scores, mostly because the Music Bakery tracks have been overused and have become to recognizable.

After scouring KZbin for old Las Vegas, I notice there is almost no footage that was taken inside the old casinos. Is that because photography was prohibited? I would have loved to see some of the old mechanical slot machines.
@bejarano19603 жыл бұрын
There was nothing illegal about filming in casinos. The casinos prohibited filming to protect the privacy of their clients and customers. When you do see footage shot in a casino, especially if the people are gambling, you can almost be certain that it was staged for the camera. I've filmed a lot of people playing the old slot machines but they are all actors and models.
@danc11973 жыл бұрын
Unlike today's smartphone camera. Old video cameras were not very portable so it would be unusual to walk around with one unless you're a newscaster. Most of these outdoor videos were shot from a moving vehicle or helicopter. The old news vans had the cameras mounted in top. Handheld cameras of those days could never have this high quality that a vehicle mounted camera has.

The oldest footage is from the Las Vegas News Bureau. It's not generally considered totality free. The production company I used to work for had to pay a fee for duplication. The footage from the 90s was shot by me, including the aerials. A lot of it is footage that I never ended up using for the project that I shot it for. I don't have any objection to it being used. By having posted it to KZbin it has become part of the public domain, whether I like it or not. So yes, it's royalty free but a screen credit is always nice.

Caesars really isn’t part of the "old" Vegas, but maybe the beginning of the new, as it opened in 1966. Just a weekend could cost upwards of $1500 just for the room, not to mention all the other amenities and fees which might take another $500-$1000. And if you go to Vegas you want to gamble and so even a light gambler will spend another $500-$1000, plus food and everything else. When it's all said and done you can expect to spend a minimum of $5000 just for a weekend. That new Resort World Hotel that they just built will be even more.
