They're never going to recover if they stick to that philosophy. They put money towards marketing, but the problem is they don't know how to do it properly and get eyes on the game. Romancing Saga games were 'very' popular in Japan in the 90s. So much so that the remake of RS II is one of the most pre-ordered games in Japan now, next to DQ III HD-2D. The new saga game almost certainly didn't have nearly the same budget by comparison. I know it may seem odd, but that's more or less how it is most likely.

Say what you want about Furyu, but they are one of the very few publishing companies who are willing to take risks and publish games that are very experimental/unconventional. I've played several of their more notable games and while I think all of them were very flawed games, they were certainly memorable at the very least, which can't be said about the vast majority of new JRPGs coming out. I'd much rather have a new experimental Furyu game over a comfy new Atelier/Neptunia or an epic new Tails of/FF game. They also all had great OSTs, my personal favorite being Monark's, which I think is on par with some of the big hitters.

Romancing SaGa games are brutally hard, but they were some of the most popular RPGs in Japan in the 90s (of course, they weren't released in the West then). I wonder what they do with this game. If you think SMT is hard, you've not played SaGa, let me tell you that. But darn it, this is a surprisingly long list overall! Definitely some good stuff on here, too. Dragon Quest III is going to be a massive hit in Japan for sure; probably not so much in the West, as usual, but it should do decently well at least.

@HappyRatKaiser3 ай бұрын
I am really curious how Romancing SaGa 2 will be received. This game is bound to get more attention if just by being the first game since probably Minstrel Song nineteen years ago to not look like a budget or mobile title. But the issue for SaGa will be what it's always been, that the games are almost JRPGs in name only. These are games that prioritize complex mechanics, a high level of difficulty, and a minimalist narrative focused more on encouraging player freedom and unpredictability than a tight, cinematic plot. They are games that you beat, not complete. If traditional JRPGs were an attempt by Japanese developers to reimagine '80s CRPGs as something you could sell to manga loving kids, SaGa is kind of the series that attempts to take that interpretation and then feed it back into the machine to reimagine the JRPG as something more akin to its original point of inspiration. What Etrian Odyssey is to Wizardry, SaGa is -- kinda sorta -- to Ultima, especially the Romancing line. All that is to say, I worry that it'll just be the same thing as it was for Frontier back in the '90s, and Minstrel Song in the '00s, where people pick it up expecting one thing and then get upset when they get another. Square has been trying unusually hard to build up the SaGa brand the last several years, even putting out several videos to explain the combat in Emerald Beyond up to its release. It miiiiiiight be worthwhile for them to get ahead of the curve and try to build an audience by hyping up what's so cool and unique about the game, rather than just throwing it out there to be misunderstood. Romancing SaGa 2 is a unique game; 31 years later there's still nothing remotely like it. I hope it can find a receptive audience.

I would like to point out that REYNATIS isn't "developed by" FuRyu, it is developed by Natsume Atari. The game shows Natsume Atari action RPG game design paradigms (based on the demo). CRYMACHINA is a game by AQURIA (it even says so as such, when you boot the game up and look past the FuRyu logo). Trinity Trigger is a game by Three Rings. "FuRyu games" are so different because they are developed by different developers using their own game design philosophies, artists, UI designers, etc... They do not develop games you are familiar with. They do however assist a bit with development and usually appoint a director to oversee things to a slight extend. But you will see the main developer's ideas in the works published/produced by them. Check Gematsu, they do have an accurate info regarding the actual developers.

You didn't listen to the commentary, man. @@TheKisekiNut My apologies. I missed that part. I guess I am so used to this misattribution that I automatically wrote that comment. Because there is still the notion that I described in my comment, for whatever reason and it leads to this situation where FuRyu is marked off as the sole developer, when in fact their contribution is more or less "minimal" and the games are products of the other developer invooved. I bought One Piece on Xbox because I figured if a Switch port hadn't been announced within a year of release, it prbly wasn't gonna happen. Now I'm wondering if I should wait a few months before buying Persona.

Dawntrail, Daybreak, Visions of Mana, Metaphor, Ys X, Brothership, DQ3HD2D, Fantasian, Suikoden 1 and 2 hopefully and I’ll be sitting pretty the rest of the year. Also looking forward to Black Myth Wukong, Gestalt: Steam and Cinder, and the new Zelda.

Makes me happy to know all the big JRPGs I’m excited for are coming to my series X so i don’t need to buy a PS5 just for 1 or 2 ip

Konami with Suikoden is a disgrace...

I have no idea what they're doing. Surely there's not much that needs to be done outside of QoL and upscaling etc.

Agreed on the Metaphor re-release coming a few years later. It's hard to trust Atlus to not do that since they've continued to do it with almost all of their releases now. So unfortunately, I can no longer ever buy their new games at first release. Even if they surprise me and never do a re-release, I'll just be getting it at a heavy discount at that point. Lord knows I have enough of a backlog to keep me busy til then.

Witch spring R "3" was release outside of normal stores. But it came with a LE for the switch It was worth $120, as i played the game, i was informed ingame of 2 more witches, (later on i find out that the 2 were actually from their predecessor// previous game) so they were present as a cameo/ side characters Afterward withnsome research, i find out all 3 witches originally were from a mobile game so im glad that the first installment is getting a consoles port // along with a LE as well (i believe) The graphic aren't too amazing but the story, characters design and game turnbased was a win for me so there that

Fantasian breaking out of the Apple Store is an absolute win. Definitely one of the few games I'll be looking into picking up for the rest of the year next to Reynatis, Metaphor: Refantazio, and Dragon Quest III HD-2D.

I'd buy the one piece game but for myself the English dub would make it a instant buy. I love the anime and the combat i have no problem with but a English dub would improve what I assume is a good game

I am really looking forward to Visions of Mana. Absolutely loved Trials of Mana, mostly because of Angela's VA. That girl clearly had fun in that role.

Farmagia is one I actually got more interested in seeing the gameplay. I wasn’t too sold on it to begin with, but the farming + Pikmin + fantasy setting is appealing to me. I’m also not one to care about the graphics, but I can see how that could be a turn-off for many people.

Honestly, sure farmagia looks a little ugly graphics wise, but I feel like they will smooth it out by the time of release, and I personally disagree about the gameplay looking boring, plus if the story ends up being good, that's all that matters to me

I'm absolutely hyped for Metaphor and its probably gonna be jrpg of the year from the get-go given that I'm not gonna be able to play Farewell O Zemuria until next year at the very least.
