I really like this setup. Does this laser have the capability to cut metal or only engrave? And are the engraves only thin surface ablation, deeper engraves, or do they require a marking agent like Cermark? Thanks!

Thanks Nathan. The SpeedMarker Galvo fiber laser can cut thin metal but it's not its main function. The Galvo excels at high-speed marking the metal directly. It's a fiber so it doesn't need Cermark it can engrave the metal directly. With cutting metal, the galvo basically "engraves" a line over and over again extremely quickly, so it can take some time to cut through a metal piece. We have a few jewellery customers who use it for metal-cutting.

@@TrotecLaserCanada thanks for the quick reply! So you can get a dark engrave in metal like silver, gold, or steel without using a marking agent? Or is it just the cutout of the design, and a secondary process is needed for color?

@@nathanwright9074 Silver and steel definitely engrave black with the fiber laser. Gold should as well but we haven't tested it ourselves yet.

@@nathanwright9074 yes you can mark color on stainless steel, silver gold and brass there are a few scientific article discuss it the canadian mint made very exhaustive tests with silver, some stunning bright angle independent colors JPT and a few manufacturer of laser sources mightbe SPI or IPG has settings for coloring different metals a kind of physics laying behind it www.nature.com/articles/ncomms16095

You'd make a killing bringing this to anime conventions. Allowing a client to pick out a necklace, ring, ect, then put a design on it they like, their pick. You'd wreck the place in sales.
